Severus peeked from behind the bookshelf he was using as for cover. Remus Lupin was settling down at the desk that he'd placed his study materials on not five minutes before. What does he think he's doing? Severus scowled as he approached the desk.
"Lupin. What do you think you're doing?" He folded his arms across his chest and glared down at the scruffy boy. To his satisfaction, Lupin stuttered out a reply.
"Well… y-you see… I thought we could study together…" he looked back down, fidgeting with his obviously second-hand robes.
"And you didn't think to ask me before you made yourself comfortable?" He smirked, finding the other boy's discomfort rather enjoyable.
"N-no… but I… I mean… I'll just leave, shall I?" He made to pack up and leave, but the look of disappointment made Severus' conscience kick the walls of the tiny part of his brain in which he'd locked it away. He sighed.
"Since you've already made yourself comfortable and we are in several classes together… you may stay." With that, he turned around and left to find the book he'd intended to use before the whole Lupin incident had occurred.
As he returned, he saw a goofy smile on the Gryffindor's face. For some reason, the boy looked oddly pleased.
Severus shook his head. He'd never understand Gryffindors.
