Yes it's been done a thousand times before, but I thought I'd jump on the sacrifice bandwagon. A little idea that popped into my head and would not leave. Cue angst. :)

Once again stars my origin-less Warden Isla, altough with a different ending to my other as much cannon dialouge as possible. No Alistair is not wearing a helmet in this fic :)

He could not let her die.

The battle against the Archdemon was not going to plan. All the poltices bought from Sandal (that image of him standing around charred darkspawn corpses was never going to leave Alistair's mind any time soon) had long been used, Lelianna had needed reviving from Wynne twice, and to cap it all off, both bastillas, their ace in the hole, had been set alight, rendering them useless.

A scream alerted him to Wynne being knocked out. The healer was down.

Isla, who normally exchanged playful banter with both him and their enemies, had her eyes wide with concentration and pain.

Twang!

Lelianna let fly one last enchanted arrow before a genlocks grunt and the clatter of a bow falling told him there was only two of them left.

But it was the last straw for the Archdemon, which collapsed to the flagstones with a great roar.

Alistair limped over to Isla, slaying as many darkspawn as he could along the way

"Let me take the blow" he said grabbing her arm.

"What? No! That's crazy!" She blurted out as many varients on this as she could before Alistair put his finger to her lips.

"Do you think I could watch you die? This is the sanest thing I've ever done."

He kissed her one last time, letting it linger for a few moments, before grasping his sword and turning to the Archdemon.

Thinking quickly, Isla walked up behind him, closed her eyes, so that only one small tear was visible, and whispered:

"I'm sorry"

She sent a swift and hard blow with her hand to the back of his head, knocking him to the ground.

His vision blurred as he fell, before hearing her soft voice one last time.

"You don't want to watch me die, I've made sure you won't...I love you"

And everything went black.

There you have it.

Through my secound playthrough, I decided not to give Morrigan the evil demon baby. I wish a cutscene like this existed. (I.e. Alistair about to sacrifice self, Warden knocks him out and takes blow herself) It makes for a much more bittersweet ending in my opinion.
