Hey, I'm back. It's been a year since I finished my last stories and I couldn't stay away. My good friend MaxieMoose introduced me to a AH Twilight story, In Your World by solostintwilight that inspired me to write FF again. The idea of Rose living among the Amish was too interesting to pass up. I hope I do it justice. And if I offend anyone, please forgive me. It's not my intention.

As always, I don't own VA or make any money from this story.

Chapter 1

RPOV

"Lissa, if we have to stay at Court another minute, I'm going to die of boredom." I flopped down on my bed, in the room I shared with Lissa, and buried my head in the mattress.

In the two weeks we'd been here since graduating from St Vlads, we'd already done anything worth doing. Adrian and Christian were away visiting some friends in Romania, so they weren't around to entertain us either.

"I agree," Lissa said as she sat herself down on the edge of her bed across from me. "You want to watch a movie?"

I groaned into my pillow. "No." I sat up and looked around the suffocating little room. The plain white walls and boring beige carpet were driving me mad. "I need to get out of here, breathe fresh air, spread my wings."

Lissa laughed as I held my arms out wide. "I think the weeks you spent roaming all over Russia looking for Dimitri have spoiled you."

My heart ached at the mention of his name. I searched for my mentor and the love of my life everywhere I could. Well, until Adrian closed my account, forcing me to come home. I was pissed at first, but realized that I had a responsibility to Lissa and came home to honor that. I wouldn't ever stop looking for him, just doing it a little at a time.

Thinking back to that time gave me an idea. "How about we take a little road trip? Just a couple days off before we have to go back to school and homework again."

Lissa's brow furrowed as she thought.

I got down on the floor in front of her and put my hands on her knees. I looked up at her with my best puppy dog eyes. "Please, Lissa. Just a little adventure before we have to grow up."

It didn't take long before Lissa sighed and nodded her head. "All right." Her smile grew wide. "This will be fun, just the two of us again."

I jumped up from the floor and retrieved a suitcase from the closet to pack while Lissa booted up the computer to find a destination. "There's a Moroi hotel in New York I've been wanting to visit. How about that?"

"Sounds great. Maybe we can catch a Broadway show while we're there. I've always wanted to do that."

We finished backing our bags and finalizing our itinerary before heading down to the Court garage to get a car. Thankfully, the guardians on duty were rookies that didn't know us very well. It's amazing what some feminine charm, and a little compulsion, will get you. For us, it was one fully fueled vehicle.

We climbed into the hot red convertible and hit the road. I figured, if we're going on a road trip, we might as well go in style. Right?

The cool wind felt great as it whipped through my hair. I glanced over to see Lissa's eyes closed, chin up and smile on her face. This is just what she needed to before being heaped with responsibility of being a college student and last of her line in the political arena at Court.

We'd been driving a couple hours, radio blasting as we sang at the top of our lungs, when we found ourselves surrounded by vast fields of wheat. I turned down the volume and just listened.

The wind racing past us couldn't mask the loud sound of crickets chirping in the fields. It was beautiful, as well as creepy knowing how many millions of bugs lay just beyond the road. I shivered at the thought.

"Are you cold? We can put the top up if you want?" Lissa asked.

"No, I'm fine."

Just then, the car started to sputter and jerk as it slowed down. "Nonononono!" I didn't know what to do. I pulled the car over to the shoulder and stopped. I turned off the engine and popped the hood. As I pushed the cover off, smoke billowed out, choking me.

"You've got to be freakin' kidding me!" I yelled into the night sky. Standing on the side of the road in front of a smoking car in the middle of the night almost brought tears to my eyes. Why can't anything go right?

Lissa got out of the car and walked over to stand next to me. She pulled out her cell phone, but couldn't get any reception out here. "It'll be fine, Rose. I'm sure someone will drive by and help us." She put her hand on my shoulder and peered into the engine after the smoke cleared. I didn't know what she was looking for since she knew less about cars than I did, and that wasn't much beyond where to put the gas.

I turned in a circle as I surveyed the area around us looking for any sign of life beyond bugs and wheat, but I couldn't see a thing in the dark. "I can't believe this. We're stuck in the middle of Bum Fuck, Egypt with no way to contact anyone."

"Let's just get back in the car and wait for sunrise before we start looking for help."

Not having a better idea, I followed her lead and went to get in the car. I slammed the door shut and slouched in the seat. This wasn't my idea of a good time.

"Just look at how many stars we can see out here," Lissa said as she gazed up at the millions of twinkling lights above us. She always knew how to look on the positive side to every situation. And she was right. We could see many more than we could at home. It was amazing.

We sat in the car stargazing when that all too familiar nausea swept over me. I grabbed my stake and quietly opened the driver's side door. "Get down and stay quiet," I whispered to Lissa.

She squatted down as far as she could to the floor. I walked around to Lissa's side of the car to better protect her and waited. It was then that I noticed the crickets had gone silent. The only sound I could detect was the breeze flowing through wheat.

A crunch of gravel behind me alerted me to our visitor. I spun around and saw the red ringed eyes of a Strigoi standing just beyond the rear of our car.

He was tall and muscular, definitely a Dhampir before he was changed. His fangs sparkled in the moonlight as he smiled at me. "Isn't this interesting. I come looking for one Guardian, only to find another."

I had no idea what he was talking about, and had no intentions of asking.

He took a step forward.

I took a step forward.

I wanted to be as far away from Lissa as I could when I killed him.

"I know who you are," he said as he glared at me. "We fought back at the academy raid. I would've tasted your blood if it wasn't for that fire-using Moroi brat."

Now I recognized him. My grip on the silver stake tighten. He was the one who grabbed Dimitri in the cave. He's the one who took him from me. And now he was going to pay.

Anger and adrenaline pumped through my veins as I lunged for him. The tip of my stake grazed his chest. He dodged left and hit me in the ribs. I kept myself steady as I continued punching and kicking. Being punched and kicked.

I managed to cut a gash into his cheek. He stopped and wiped the blood dripping down his face. He snarled at me and took a step forward when he stopped. My breathing was coming in short, shallow bursts. I was tired but determined to protect my charge. He wasn't getting past me.

Then, without a word, he spun around and ran away. I was stunned. Was it a trick? Was there something even more horrible standing right behind me that scared him off? I slowly turned around but saw nothing.

Lissa climbed out of the car after I gave the all clear. "The sun's coming up."

Indeed, when I looked at the horizon, the very faintest of light could be seen. I was a little disappointed I didn't get to finish killing him tonight, knowing he was still out there. Still a threat.

"Where are you hurt?" Lissa asked as she looked me over. She healed a few cuts on my face and the bruised ribs. To bad she couldn't do something about the dirt and blood on my clothes.

"Come on," she said. "Change your clothes and we'll walked to that house over there."

I turned to see what she was looking at. Off in the distance I could see the top of a couple buildings that we didn't notice last night. After putting on some clean jeans and tshirt, we locked up the car and started walking down the road.

"Hopefully, a mechanic lives here," I said as we made our way up the long, dirt driveway as the sun climbed higher in the sky.

As we got closer, I had a weird feeling about his place. I couldn't put my finger on it, but something seemed off. It looked like a typical American farm, but I didn't see any trucks or tractors anywhere. There wasn't even any wires connecting the house to the electric poles along the road. An image of a bunch of inbred rednecks playing banjos flashed before my eyes.

"Why don't we just wait by the car. I'm sure the highway patrol will come by eventually," I said as I stopped in front of the little wooden house.

Lissa nodded her head and we both turned on our heals to leave, only to be stopped short by the sight of a little girl wearing a long dress and a bonnet.

I hope you enjoyed it so far. It has already been plotted out and won't be more than 9 or 10 chapters. Please review and let me know what you think so far.
