What if I was Scared?

A short poem about the blind, ceaseless war between Zangoose and Seviper and one member of the races' desperate attempt to bring about peace.

The archives of time tell us of centuries of endless war

Constant, uninterrupted violence without an end in sight

Only in lands of make-believe will this fade even a mite

Because no matter how we suffer we will always beg for more

For so long we've believed that it's only natural for this to happen

The opposition is monstrous; that is why they must die

But in these trying times, in these moments always passing

Have you ever stopped a bit just to ask yourself why?

The idea of us not being mere animals is something I can assure you of

Yet we stay rooted in our ways like a hand exchanging dexterity for the warmth of a glove

It's almost as if we don't want to accept that these thousands of years are wrong

Are you so stupid and naïve you think us incapable of love?

You look at us and you see wretches

We look at you and see the same

So hungrily we desire for bloody messes

Tjat we become enraged at the mention of each other's names

But I want all of us to be enlightened, for this future is not unavoidable

Take a look around

Look me up and down

Realize I want a better purpose for our strife and toil

Use your intelligence.

What If was weak? What if I was scared?

Would you still try to kill me? Would you even dare?

Are you so without a conscience that you feel no empathy for us?

Do you kill because you want to? Are you sure it is because you must?

I can see the light in you; please see the one in me

Put down your weapon; this isn't what we have to be

I promise you, we can be something better! Please,just think your next decision through!

Oh, what's this? My heart is missing.

Now I see why I'm supposed to hate you.
