Xonel: So, formatting this was a little strange. It would be easier to write this as a script, but since doesn't like scripts, well... I had to settle for this. Hopefully you guys can follow it. To put it simply, the point of view changes between the characters, making any and all narration an aside (if you're not familiar with theatre-speak, that's when a character addresses the audience, or in this case the reader).

Anyway, as always I own nothing.

Showdown! Film Noire

Jay:

It had been a long night. I had recently been hired to look into a case, and the evidence was completely inconclusive. All I wanted to do was head down to Pippo's Pub for a drink. But that wasn't going to happen today.

Shirley glided into my office, wearing the same red dress and overcoat she had worn when she first came to me for help, two weeks ago. In her hand was her usual cigarette.

Shirley:

"Have you found anything, Jay?"

I was terribly worried about the case I had hired Jay to investigate. Senel had snuck off again the night before, only this time he didn't come back. I hadn't seen him all day.

"It's still inconclusive, Shirley. There are plenty of eyewitnesses, but only a few of them saw anything worth mentioning. I can't do anything until I get some solid evidence. If he really has been sneaking out to meet Chloe, then-"

"Don't say that name!" I turned away from him.

Jay:

I could tell I had made Shirley pretty upset. He hand shook as she took another draw on her cigarette.

"Shirley, Senel isn't the type to chase after another woman."

"That's what I thought too."

She sounded bitter. I didn't show it, but I was pretty upset too. I had always had a soft spot for Shirley. After all, she had been the one who showed me the right path all those years ago when my old nemesis showed up in my life again.

"Shirley, please-"

That was when all hell broke loose.

Chloe:

I almost immediately regretted walking through the door. I knew what people were saying about me and Senel. The problem was, I couldn't disprove the rumors. All I had going for me was my word.

And at the moment, my word wasn't all that strong.

Jay:

Oh bother.

Shirley:

My hand closed around the revolver in my coat pocket. There was nothing I wanted more than to shoot the hussy in front of me.

"I thought we were friends, Chloe?" My hand came out of my pocket, shaking, and I pointed the gun at her.

Chloe:

I put up my hands defensively. Shirley wasn't acting rationally. I had to explain the situation quickly. "Shirley, it's not what you think! Just listen to me!"

Shirley:

She was making excuses. I didn't have the time or the patience for this. Still, I forced myself to ask: "Fine! Then wha'ts been going on?" My hand shook as I held the revolver.

"Raynard asked us to hunt down a new species of monster that only appears at night. The only thing we've done together-"

"So you two HAVE been together!"

Jay:

Shirley was about to pull trigger. I had to stop her somehow. I couldn't let my friends kill eachother like this. Without waiting, I moved.

Unfortunately, I moved a second too late.

Shirley:

I wasn't mad at Jay. He didn't know what to do, so it was understandable that he try to knock me unconscious. It didn't matter anyway. As things started to go dark, I saw my former "friend" collapse.

Jay:

Perfect. Now I had two bodies to dispose of. Ah, this takes me back to the good old days of being a ninja...

...xXx...

Xonel: Eh... I think I ended it a bit lamely. So the score now is one to one? Or should this second point go to Jay?
