Author's Note: Yes, this is a lame title. But, anyway, enjoy.
The Silent Ones
Brian released a solemn and soft sigh as he kept his eyesight on the deserted road before him. He resisted the urge to do it again as his eyes glanced briefly at the rearview mirror, catching the peaceful sight of Jane slumbering in the back seat of his car.
They had escaped successfully.
The police would no doubt be after them.
Brian wouldn't let the authorities catch them. He would take Jane somewhere far, far away and keep her safe. Brian wasn't going to allow anything to harm her ever again.
Stopping at a motel in a dark and lonely town, Brian parked the car in front of the structure and exited his vehicle. He shut the door slowly and then walked over to the passenger door. Reaching forward, he grasped the handle and pulled the door open, eyes immediately going to the girl there.
"Jane…?" breathed Brian, finally noticing that she was still sleeping.
Reaching out, he gently brushed a few strands of dark hair from her peaceful face, recalling the horrors they had to endure back at the house…when they were running experiments on her. Brian shuddered at the thought, vomit almost rising up into his throat.
Swallowing the bile back down, Brian scooped the girl up into his arms and then used his foot to shut the car door. He carried her into the motel and to the front desk, getting a weird and suspicious look from the person behind the front desk. Without small talk or any questions, Brian got a room for him and Jane and Brian easily carried her to their room, using his foot to shut that door too.
Gently putting Jane's body onto the bed, Brian stared down at her sleeping features. He was about to move away, but the girl's eyes snapped open and she reached out, roughly grabbing his wrist and jerking her down to her. Brian froze, eyes going wide as he found their lips inches apart.
"Brian…" she whispered breathlessly, grip tightening on his wrist to where the male winced in mild pain.
"Yes, Jane?" Brian managed to voice.
Jane tilted her head to the side, staring at him with her large eyes. "Don't leave me…" she now sounded sad and empty, tone colored with negativity.
She sounded so alone.
Without really ruminating on it much, Brian joined the female on the bed, pulling her into his arms where she curled up against him, shutting her eyes and sighing calmly through her nose. Brian closed his eyes as well, holding her tight. He didn't want to leave her at all. He never wanted to leave her.
"I'll never leave you, Jane," Brian said to her. "I'll never leave you." He said.
And that was true.
