Skye knocked on the door. "Simmons, it's me."
"Come in," she heard. Skye opened the door and observe the room. Fitz was lying comatose on a bed, his arm in a sling and he had a tube sending oxygen into his nose and a heart rate monitor. Jemma was holding his hand, sitting on a chair next to the bed.
"How is he?" Skye asked, pulling up a chair next to Jemma.
"I don't know if he's going to wake up, Skye," she sobbed, bursting into tears. Skye hugged her and tried to comfort her. She wants to reassure Jemma that Fitz would wake up, but she also didn't want to give her false hope in case he didn't. But she really hoped that he did. Suddenly Skye got an idea.
"Come with me," she said, standing up.
"I don't want to leave him," Jemma insisted.
"Don't worry. You'll be back before he can miss you. Trust me." She held out her hand. Jemma sighted and grasped it reluctantly. Skye pulled her along down to her own room on the bus.
"Here," Skye said, handing Jemma a hoodie and grabbing one for herself.
"Why do we need these?" Jemma asked.
"For a disguise."
"And why do we need a disguise?"
"Because we're going to town, Jemma Simmons."
"What? We're not supposed to leave the base! Koenig will-"
"Never find out. Now, do you suppose there's a garage at this 'playground'?" Skye quietly ran around the base, not letting to of Jemma's hand. Finally they found the right door.
"Ah-ha! That's the ticket!" Skye exclaimed, admiring a motorcycle. Jemma looked slightly terrified, but Skye found them both helmets and tossed one to her. Skye mounted the bike and quickly looked something up on her phone as Jemma cautiously got on behind her. They sped off.
"Skye?" Jemma shouted after they had been driving for some time already.
"Yeah?" Skye shouted back.
"Where exactly are we going?"
"To get something for Fitz!"
"But-" Jemma was cut short by their abrupt stop.
"For when he wakes up," Skye said, with a smile. She took off her helmet and put up her hood. Jemma did the same and examined the place where they had stopped.
"Is this...?"
"A toy store," Skye confirmed. She nodded and walked towards the door. They went inside and Jemma followed Skye as she looked for something in particular. They were there for almost ten minutes when Skye finally found what she was looking for.
"Yes. Stuffed animals. Now, Simmons, Which one is the one? It's on me." Jemma didn't even have to think. She scanned the selection and grabbed the perfect one off of the shelf. Skye looked slightly confused.
"A monkey?"
"They're his favorite," Jemma explained. Skye shrugged her shoulders and smiled.
"A monkey it is." They walked to the checkout and paid in cash. They got back on the bike, stopped for some ice cream, and headed back to the playground. They were getting off the bike when Jemma stopped.
"Skye?"
"Yeah?"
"Thank you."
"Don't worry about it. You would do the same for me if my boyf- oh, wait, that's right. I'm alone."
"You're not alone Skye. You have us. And me doing the same for you? Maybe just minus the motorcycle." They both laughed.
"I'm really happy to see you actually smile, Jemma." Jemma nodded then paused.
"You called me by my name. My first name." Skye smiled.
"I guess I did." They walked back to Fitz's room and put the monkey in between his chest and his uninjured arm.
"He's gonna love it," Jemma said with a little smile. She grabbed his hand again and Skye sat back down next to her.
