Chapter 1

It had been 8 years to the day, the day Alex's world crumbled around her. Since that day Alex's world had been nothing but chaos, drugs, sex, alcohol, you name it she did it. Things have slowly started to change in the past year for Alex. After nearly dying from an overdose, Alex's best friend Nicky knew that things had to change, Alex had been on recovery ever since. Not just on recovery from the drugs but on recovery of her heart. Ever since the love of her life, Piper left her and the death of her mother, Alex never really gave herself chance to heal with so many things getting in the way. But now, with her life changing for the good, she just remembered Piper as a memory, but god was she a good memory to have. There wasn't a day that went by where Alex didn't think about Piper or wondered how she was doing. The thought of Piper was the only thing that has got her through this past year because Alex knew Piper would never want to see her like this, ever.

Alex has spent the last week packing up all her belonging in her apartment because she was moving the next day. She had given herself the week off work which she knew she would regret since she and Nicky had only just opened the book store 2 months ago. Alex managed to escape the cartel along with Nicky not long after Piper left, of course, this didn't stop her using the heroin that she imported. They opened the book store to for fill one of their joint dreams and to also keep Alex's mind off anything else negative that could be going on around her.

It was Friday night and Alex had just finished packing up her things, she was sat on one of the many boxes scattered around the apartment, drinking a beer while reading one of the only books left out of the boxes. She felt calm and ready for the day ahead of her, it was a big step in getting her life back together. She was lost in her book until she heard her phone buzz.

From: Nicky

Be round in 10, I hope u still have beer in that empty apartment of urs or I'm not coming.

Alex chuckled at her friend's constant need for beer or any sort of alcohol. Even though Alex had had her troubles with drink, it was under control and she was free to drink like any normal person was. She sent her friend a quick reply before turning her attention back to the book.

To: Nicky

Course I have beer, what a stupid question Nichols.

It wasn't long before Nicky came crashing through the door, with 2 pizzas in her hand. Alex always loved that Nicky knew the exact right time to order food, it was one of her many skills.

"Where is it" was the first thing the bushy haired girl said.

"Fridge" Alex laughed back knowing exactly what her friend wanted.

"I had the worst day at the shop today, please please please tell me you're coming back on Monday?"

"I'll be there don't worry, what happened anyway?"

"Well firstly some little fucker on a bike knocked into me as I was opening up and I got coffee all over me, of course he rode off before I had chance to snap his bike in half"

A smile grew on Alex's face and she walked to the kitchen to get the beer her friend had gotten for her.

"And then the new book order didn't come in so I had to spend my day sorting out all the displays so it didn't look like a fucking second hand thrift shop. God now I'm so fucking tired"

"That's because all you usually do is sit at the back and watch Netflix while I do all the work" Alex chuckled

"Your more of a people person Vause, I'm just the brains" Nicky said confidently

"I don't think brains is the word" Alex replied, her comeback being better than Nicky's attempt.

Nicky just rolled her eyes and took a hefty bite of a pepperoni pizza slice.

They spent the rest of the night just talking and laughing, getting themselves prepared for the day ahead since Alex was making Nicky help her move in since she didn't really want to tackle the task by herself. Tomorrow was a big day, and Alex was ready.
