Of Gentle Rains

A/N My first Tales of Symphonia fic. I'm shocked about how few Raine/Regal fics there are out there! I've played the game five times, and I've thought since the first time that those two were meant to be together! Anywho...I DO NOT OWN TALES OF SYMPHONIA! also, I like cheese, do you like cheese?

Raine stood in the central square of Sybak, engrossed in the book she was reading. It had been five years since the Great Kharlan Tree had been restored, and she and Genis had already completed their quest to end half-elf discrimination. Raine had since moved to Sybak to continue her studies on ancient ruins. Recently, a book she had ordered had arrived, and she rarely looked up from it. In fact, she was so busy reading, she didn't notice the rain starting to fall from the sky.

A blue haired man leaving the library did, however. He also notice the lovely half-elf about to run into a wall. Quickly, Regal left the shelter of the building and ran towards his old friend calling out her name.

A surprised Raine spun around, and was knocked to the ground by the muscular man, who was unable to stop in time.

"I was just so happy to see you?" Regal's attempt at levity was pitiful. They got themselves righted, and as Raine dusted herself, she said angrily, "I would think that after being shackled for so many years, you would have better control over your body." She looked up at the blush appearing across Regal's face. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't ha-"

"It's okay, really, it is." he said. Raine had forgotten how controlled his voice was. "I just wanted to make sure you didn't hurt yourself." Regal gestured to the wall that was mere inches from them.

"You mean getting bowled over wasn't painful?" Raine smiled. Regal had forgotten how complete it made her look. As much as it pained him to say it, Zelos was right. A girl really just wasn't the same without a pretty smile. They stood there in awkward silence, while the rain grew heavier.

Finally Regal spoke, "So, what brings you to Sybak?" Raine answered simply, "Research on ruins. Yourself?"

How could I tell her why I'm really here? He thought. That I heard from Genis that she had moved here. That I've been worried and searching for her these past five years. He lied. "Just business. PR and stuff like that."

Raine, however, was not one to be fooled. She saw Regal look away when he said that, and gave him a slap on the head. "Come now. Weren't you ever taught never to lie to a teacher? We can always tell."

Regal just looked at her. The way the moon made her hair glisten, how the rain dripped down the lens of her glasses and made her clothes cling to every curve of her body.

"Regal?" Raine asked, clearly concerned, "Regal, is everything al-"

She was cut off by his mouth on hers. They were locked in a full passionate kiss that made Raine forget everything, and caused her to drop her book.

And all around them, the rain poured down, a gentle reminder of their pasts, and their future.

So, another one shot ends. What did you guys think of it? Like the pairing? Out ou non? I might write more, I don't know yet... Anyway, as always, I respect and value your praises, curses, and advice!
