~Dreaming of far away
White as Snow
"Finnick, Finnick!" The excited girl screamed with excitement as she gazed out of the window at the meadow she loved to dance on.
"What?" He muttered grumpily, rubbing his eyes tiredly.
"Look outside." She grinned. "Look." He sighed but did as his older sister said, and looked outside to see a blanket of white covering the landscape.
"Woah!" He exclaimed. "I thought the Capitol said that there wouldn't be any snow for years because of the radiation and stuff from all the bombs. The whole weather system got messed up." Katniss and Peeta came into the room, concerned about what all the shouting was about.
"What's the matter?" Peeta asked, coming over to the window and standing between his two children.
"It's snowed!" Primrose smiled, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
"Why is it snowing, we got told that it would be ages before it would snow again." Finnick asked, looking up to his dad.
"I guess they must have predicted it wrong then." Peeta looked down into his son's grey eyes. "Do you want to go and play in it?" He asked them. Both his children's eye gleamed in excitement.
"Yeah!" Primrose shouted.
"Okay, go and wrap up warm and we'll be down in a minute." Peeta told them. He went over to Katniss who was standing staring out of the window as if she'd seen a ghost. The two children ran out of the room, and hopped down the stairs two at a time in their hurry to play in the snow. What's the matter?" He asked gently, taking Katniss' hands, and squeezing them gently.
"Do you remember the last time it snowed?" She whispered, caught up in the memory of so many winters ago. Peeta smiled sadly.
"It was when Gale was whipped. Real or not real?" He replied. A tear fell down Katniss' cheek.
"Real." She whispered, hugging Peeta. "I'm sorry. It seems so long ago."
"I know." He replied, letting her sob into his shoulder. "I know."
"The only thing I've seen so white since is the ash of all the people that died here." She whispered. "It was white as..." She trailed off, unable to finish her sentence.
"Snow." Peeta finished. "He's gone though Katniss. Paylor is in charge now, the games are over. He can't hurt you anymore."
"Every time I think I'm finally getting over it all, something happens. A nightmare. A white rose. Even just snow." She cried. "How will I heal?" Peeta held her tighter.
"Together. We'll heal each other." He whispered softly. "I promise."
"I love you Peeta." She said, pulling away, and wiping her tears away.
"I love you too." He said. "I can take the children out if you want. You can stay here." But Katniss shook her head.
"No, no." She said. "I'll be fine." They went downstairs and Katniss pulled on her father's old hunting jacket and her hunting boots.
"Hurry up." Primrose begged, getting impatient. Katniss smiled at how quickly her 14 year old daughter had become like a 5 year old again.
"I'm coming." Katniss said, following her out of the door. The crisp, fresh snow crunched beneath her feet. Finnick picked up some snow and formed it into a ball and threw it at her. Katniss laughed as it hit her in the face, numbing it. Snow was only snow after all.
