Rememberance
Liberty Van-Zant walked through the darkened halls of Degrassi Community School for the last time, her eyes tearing up as she looked around and remembered. Her heart clenched painfully as her thoughts went to JT. He should be graduating this year. Making jokes and laughing with his friends and old teachers, but he couldn't because he was GONE. Liberty let out a shuddering sob and bit her fist. Everyone in this damn school, all her friends had seemed to have forgotten JT and it made her angry. How could they so easily forget their friend? She certainly couldn't. JT had done so much for the school and for his friends.
He'd been a hero to many of them. He had been Paige Michaelchuck's hero when he tried to do something about her rapist. He was her hero when he stood by her during her pregnancy despite the fact that they had broken up and the fact that he sold and overdosed on Oxycodone to support her and his child.
When Mia Jones had come to school he had accepted her with open arms and had loved her daughter,Isabella dearly.
Liberty couldn't help but cry even louder, collapsing to the ground uselessly. Her hands went up to her carefully done up hair and tore at it until it was a tangled mess. She brought her hands down to her feet and took the high heels off harshly, throwing them at a locker where they made a bang before landing on the floor with a thud.
Suddenly she heard footsteps hurrying torward her.
"Libby?" Manny asked in a gentle voice. She fell gracefully to the floor beside her friend, legs tucked underneath her.
Liberty turned her head torwards Manny and just gazed at her wordlessly. Then, lips trembling she asked in an angry tone,"How can you guys forget JT? He should be here! He should have graduated with us today and he's not and yet you and Emma,Toby, and EVERYONE are all so damn happy! We shouldn't be happy!"
Manny shook her head negatively. "Liberty...we haven't forgotten JT."
Liberty laughed sarcasticely. "Then why haven't any of you mentioned him?! Why didn't you guys go to the grave with me? Why are you all so happy?" Her voice was rough and scratchy.
Manny let out a whimper and then a sniffle. Her dark eyes closed and she rested her head against the locker behind her.
"Liberty! It's so damn hard to go to his grave and face the silence,to face that he can't even speak back. If I went to the grave I would have been faced with the reality that he is gone. I have been able to imagine him standing up and getting his diploma, playing one last prank on the school and laughing. If I had went to that grave I wouldn't be able to do that." Manny's voice was like an eerie whisper, haunting.
Liberty looked at Manny, eyes haunted and pained. "I miss him so much! I never even got to say goodbye! And when I close my eyes I see him against that car bleeding to death! It haunts my every waking moment. Everywhere I look I see him and smell his scent..." She trailed off as the tears spilled down her cheeks.
Manny moved closer, wrapping slender arms around the other girl. Heads resting against eachother they remembered JT as he was and in the distance that no one could see,JT watched with tears rolling down his transparent cheeks.
The End
