The Tale of Eternal Companions
Author's note: I'm pretty much in love with Sky from Jade Empire J This is his story before he met the Spirit Monk.
Prologue
"Sky," Meilin whispered.
"What is it?" Sky whispered back, trying to think of where he put his dual blades just in case she had heard someone; Perhaps a beggar or thief who had decided to break into the wrong house. Women always had a better sense of hearing compared to him.
Instead, she hesitated for a while. Then, she finally replied with, "I'm with child."
For a second, Sky did not understand the seemingly foreign words. They were like English to him. But finally, he understood.
"What did you say, Meilin?" he inquired with an stunned voice, lifting himself up to a sitting position on his sleeping mat. He could feel hot excitement running through his veins.
He could hear her shift herself up as well, and closed his eyes. A child?
"I just wish I could have told you sooner," she told him, no longer whispering.
"How long have you-" He began to ask, but she quickly cut him off.
"A few weeks, now." She interrupted, and then added, "But Daiyu said that I shouldn't tell you."
"I never liked that Daiyu woman," Sky mumbled to her, shaking his head.
"Oh, Sky." She said jokingly. She had never been to fond of Daiyu herself, but the woman had already had several children, so she had thought it would be a good idea to take her advice.
"I'm sorry, Meilin. She's just so…" he trailed off, not sure how to describe her.
"I think," Meilin began to say, scooting closer to her husband. "The only way to describe her is 'Daiyu'." They both laughed at his. Then she continued to speak. "I cannot believe we are going to have a child."
"Me either. I wonder what it will be. Male or female."
"If it's a boy, I'm naming it." Meilin whispered, laying back down and closing her eyes.
"And if it's a girl, I'm naming her. I think Pinmei would be nice."
"Pinmei is a lovely name."
