A/N: I know, I know, the title isn't really original but I couldn't think of a better one, alright. Anyway... this is just a little something I saw in my dreams after I had seen the spoilers for 6.01 and no, I couldn't let it slide. I dunno. I just have a lot of expectations and I'm bound to hurt myself in the process but damn it, I'm just a big fan of this show.

Disclaimer: Nothing is mine.

'The Desert Rose'

Jane groaned as he knew that they would fall into a fit again. He didn't want to fight with her, God it was the thing at the very bottom of his to-do list. But she was so wrong once again. So wrong in fact that he, once again, had to prove to her that she was wrong.

She wouldn't have any of it, though – she ignored him like the plague. And so he ignored her too, even if it hurt. He had brought this on himself, after all.

"No, Jane," she spat when he tried to tell her off again, "I won't sit here and listen to you pulling me down. I've had enough of this nonsense and you should too." She turned around and let out a frustrated breath. "This is not us. We're not supposed to be fighting all the time. We... need each other." She turned back to him again. After a while, she realized he wasn't going to say anything to make her feel more at ease so she averted her eyes and then ran away.

He closed his eyes and ran a hand through his hair.

The exact same moment he heard a gunshot from the room Lisbon had just walked into.

~...~

It was Red John, he knew it. He had received the warning and had taken from it its meaning. The killer was out to get everything that made Jane feel happy and now that everything was gone, only one thing remained – Teresa Lisbon.

He grabbed her hand. She was lucky she still had it; it had been a close call. One bullet straight through her upper arm.

A tear ran down his cheeks.

"I'm so sorry, Teresa," he whispered. He had never felt anything quite like this. A protectiveness that made his brain clouded and his heart cry out for the one woman whom he loved the most. The one woman who would mean his end or be his new start. He had to protect her, no matter the consequences.

And this blind protectiveness was what had gotten her into a hospital.

He brushed a strand of hair out of her face and looked down, to the floor, watching as another tear fell apart on the cold tiles.

A small hand covered his but he didn't need to look up to see that it was her.

"You were right," he said, all the while trying to contain his sobs but he couldn't. Damn, what was going on with him? He usually wasn't this emotional.

"I need you."

She held his hand while he cried, for his present was now worse than his past had ever been. She was in danger, more than he ever realized she had been.

A/N: I'm not saying that this should happen... I'm just saying that this is one of the things I might want to see in the season premiere. After all, isn't it about time for Jane to worry about Lisbon instead of the other way around? Anyway, let me know what you thought of this one-shot in a REVIEW, thank you!
