An Unexpected Surprise

They'd met years ago, years before Jensen joined the Losers. It had been one of Jensen's first missions out. He'd fallen into a team that saw him as less for being the tech guy, a geek and little more. Eliot had been different.

Eliot hadn't understood the first thing about anything technical, but he knew a good soldier when he saw the potential for one. He'd had Jensen's back and for that he would be grateful. More importantly, he'd taken the potential and molded it into something more, something stronger and better, until the geek comments were forced into submission, because Jensen was better than the average soldier, stronger, fitter, more efficient as well as a geek.

He wasn't going to be put down anymore and for that he could be thankful to Eliot. He'd tried to return the favour, give Eliot the tech skills, but they'd never really got past sending a basic email. Eliot would smirk and say why did he need to know anything more, he'd got Jensen to do it for him.

Jensen had never understood it but Eliot was the kind of guy who got his own way about stuff like that and they were friends and it counted for more.

Jensen hasn't heard from Eliot in years. He'd lost track of him somewhere in Eastern Europe and resigned himself to another friend lost in service. There have been more than enough of those over the years. Bolivia has come and gone and left its mark heavy on his heart and soul and those of his teammates. Back in the U.S. and tracking Max, he opens a little used email, never official, always safeguarded and finds one lone mail waiting to be read.

He opens it. "J. I hope I'm right and the deceased listing is wrong. I know the accusations are false. I know you will be keeping out of sight, but I'm sure you'll still be checking mail. Your family will be kept safe, I will watch over them until you can come back where you belong. If you need help, ask. E."

Emotion chokes him for a moment, the thought of a friend watching over his family, protecting them until he returns, the thought of someone beside the team who still has his back in every way that counts. He hits reply and types "Thank you." For now it is all he can say and enough that Eliot will wait and watch and check for more. Eliot will be there when he needs him.
