Rush

This city was not beautiful, sights of bronze slaves and chains not welcoming, the prevalent dust and packed bodies definitely not enjoyable. But this feeling was. This intense moment of victory as he reached into the hunter's chest and crushed the wicked man's heart.

After two days of constant stress, months of toil to get to this wretched, years of being hunted and a lifetime of misery he was so close to finally being free of it all, to finally destroying Danarius. All that had stood between him and freedom had been his master's hired Hunters.

The elf sneered in the man's face as the ghostly light of his rage dissipated. "I am not a slave," he hissed as the slaver fell away. Dozens of men had been sent after him - and now they were all dead. And he was so close to finally having everything.

Remembering himself, he was acutely aware even in this frenzied state of adrenaline and ecstasy of the woman standing behind him. The woman he'd accosted a dwarf and dropped good coin for, the woman who'd been worth the desperate chance.

Taking a deep breath to steady himself he turned to face her.

And suddenly he wasn't sure if it was the resounding thrill of his imminent victory that set his heart to pound, or if it was the way her eyes met his and were lit with that same rush.
