The Jedi entered the room, her face completely covered. "Now, my apprentice," Darth Sidious said in his malicious voice, "Now, rise, and do my bidding! Kill that Jedi!" "Yes, master," Darth Vader, aka Anakin Skywalker, said. He concentrated on one of the pillars in the room, and it zoomed to the Jedi, ready to kill. The Jedi held up her hands, stopping the enormous pillar just before it hit her, and Anakin gasped. The Jedi's cloak had fallen to the floor, and Padmé Amidala-Skywalker held up a lightsaber, ready to fight her own husband.

"Padmé?" Anakin gasped. "Fight me, Darth Vader. Fight me. You killed my husband, kill me as well!" Padmé yelled. Anakin blinked, but his Darth Vader personality took over. He leaped in, his lightsaber held high over his head. Padmé yelled and leaped in, her own lightsaber ready to block his. They clashed together, both using various techniques and styles.

Flashback

Padmé looked down at the week-old twins: Luke and Lea. She heard footsteps and then a voice, saying, "He's turned to the Dark Side." She knew who he meant, and what he meant. "Obi-Wan, I need a favor. Please, listen," she said, turning, "I need you to separate these two. Send Luke to...Anakin's half brother, and Lea to...Naboo's royal family. They will be safe in those places. I need to confront Anakin myself." Obi-Wan Kenobi stared at her in bewilderment. "I'm sorry, my lady, but I cannot just stand by and let you do this." Padmé looked back at baby Luke. She stroked the side of his smiling face and softly muttered, "I must."

End of Flashback

Padmé looked up at the mask-covered face. She no longer fought the man she loved. She fought a monster. Suddenly, Anakin sliced the end of her lightsaber, breaking it completely. He backed her into a corner, ignoring the fact that she had once been his wife, and that she was the mother of his two children. He raised his lightsaber high over his head, but before he could bring it down, Padmé worked her magic.

"Please, Anakin! Don't do this. I know you're in there somewhere, behind that mask, behind the evil! Come out, please! I love you." As she spoke, she removed his helmet. Captivated by her words, he did not struggle. "Please, come home to Luke. Come home to Lea and Obi-Wan. Come home to me..." Anakin looked down at her sparkling eyes and her tear-stained face. Then, he leaned in and kissed her.

As Darth Sidous watched the happy couple, he silently got up. Without making a sound, he walked up behind Anakin. He lifted his lightsaber, ready to strike Anakin, and as Anakin pulled away from Padmé, she saw the Dark Lord. She screamed, and pushed Anakin out of the way, and Darth Sidous's lightsaber hit her instead. Anakin tumbled and heard her scream. He got up and roared. Racing forward, he sliced Darth Sidous in half. Then he turned to Padmé

Her breathing was strangled. She gulped for air, and he crawled towards her. He cradled her head in his arms, and she lifted her hand to his face. "I..love...you," she whispered. "No. Please, stay with me!" Anakin croaked. "Take...care...Luke...Lea," Padmé answered so low that he had to bend in. "I will," he promised. He leaned in to kiss her, and as they shared their final kiss, her hand went limp and never moved again.

Anakin held Luke and Lea's hand. They stared at their mother's grave, right next to the grave of Anakin's mother and Obi-Wan. A tear slid freely down Anakin's cheek. He kneeled next to Padmé's grave. It had been five years since her death, and it was still as fresh. He felt a small hand on his shoulder and looked up at Luke. "Daddy, did you love her?" the small boy asked. Lea slipped her arm through Anakin's. He looked at her, and then back at the headstone. "Yes," he whispered, "Yes I did." Then, he took his children's hands, and they went back to their home in Tatooine.
