Completely Confidential
It had been ingrained in her mind her entire life. Men are evil. There is nothing worse than giving your heart to a man. She embodied this philosophy to the best of her abilities. Then she found a man she was attracted to. She would have forgiven herself if it was just her heart fluttering at the tone of her best guy friend's voice—after all, he was popular among Eva's friends, even the ones who hated men the most, and some of them had even said they would make an exception for him, (a few added the suffix, if he would do the same for them)—but it was something else. She had been attracted to a plastic. And that was her downfall. He yelled at her that day, but she knew that it was justified. Of course he forgave her for that, and all was forgotten…
…Except for the feeling of attraction. Eva remembered that feeling well, and was about ready to come clean. She couldn't tell just anyone, though. The feeling of scorn she would receive from the people she knew at home; the huge proportions Izzy would blow onto this revelation; and the fact that most of the people who learned would probably hold it against her.
There was only one course of action. She approached Noah, and, looking very unhappy, said, "Noah, I need to tell you something."
"Okay, shoot," he responded, not changing his gaze.
Eva looked around and then she whispered, "You can't tell anyone, alright?"
"Not even Cody?" Noah asked.
"Not even Cody."
Smirking slightly, he asked, "Not even Owen?"
"Not even Owen."
Obviously having way too much fun, he asked, "Not even Izzy?"
Eva glared downward and said, "Especially not Izzy."
Noah paused for a moment, and then began, "Not even…"
"NOAH!" Eva shouted, "This is serious!"
"Oh, right," Noah said, with no visual hints of irony, "Very serious. I promise I won't tell. So what is your shocking revelation?"
Eva began, "Well, you probably have been suspecting for some time now that I'm gay."
"Not really," Noah said, shrugging. "Why?"
Eva said quickly, "I'm straight."
Noah blinked. Then he stared blankly for a few seconds. Finally, he adorned an indignant expression and asked, "Are you making fun of me?"
"No, of course not!" Eva responded, shocked he would even suggest such a thing.
"Then why did you say something so mundane like it was some kind of secret?" Noah asked.
"Because," Eva said, "I didn't want to be this way. I wanted to be attracted to girls."
"You and me both, sister," Noah said, and then when he realized what he just said, quickly changed the subject. "But… I just can't see why it would matter so much if other people knew you were straight."
"Just don't tell anyone!" Eva reminded harshly.
"Don't sweat it," Noah said, "I gave you my word. I won't tell anyone that you're straight. Ohh… and just so we're on the same page… 'you and me both' never happened, and neither did my accusation you were making fun of me."
"Right," Eva said, nodding, "I promise not to tell anyone."
"No, no, no," Noah said, "It's not that it's a secret. It's that it never happened."
"Oh right," Eva said, "What were we talking about again?"
Noah smiled slightly, and said, "Thanks for being a great friend."
"Right back at you," Eva said, sighing.
