Consider this "Chapter 4.5" of sorts from the Book of the Bridge. In between entries 3 and 4 of Chapter 4.
When the Thief-Wife was thrown down, the Guide, having discovered this, spoke to the Thief-Son, and the Guide said,
"The Thief-Wife has been struck down by the Bridgekeeper, and I fear we may be next. Go now, and hide from His wrath."
And as the Thief-Child fled from the Bridgekeeper, the Prince came to him on the Day of the King, saying
You, child who is the Thief-Son, have twice been touched by the land of Magick, and have felt the Blessed Agonies of the Body and Mind. I will take you as an Acolyte of the King"
And the Prince threw down the Thief-Son's lover, subjecting the Thief-Son to the Blessed Agony of the Soul, and the Thief-Son became the Prince's Acolyte, and truly knew the name of the King.
But the Prince's Acolyte grew arrogant, having been touched by the Prince, and so thought himself untouchable.
And so the Prince's Acolyte who had been the Thief-Son became the Prideful Acolyte.
