What Goes On Behind The Scene? I Don't Know But I'd Protect You From It
"Vanille!" Lightning called out.
"Yes, Light?" Vanille replied from her position not too far from Lightning herself.
"I need to tell you something," Lightning said.
"What is it?" Vanille replied.
"I will tell you, but first, can we go somewhere a little more private?" Lightning replied as she started to notice the stares from everybody else in the party.
The pair went off to a nearby pond, behind a rock.
"What is it that you want to tell me Light?" Vanille asked confusedly.
"Okay, this might come as a bit of a shock to you, but I feel the urge to protect you..." Lightning declared with fervor.
"From what?" Vanille asked.
"From all the monsters, fal'Cie, l'Cie, Cie'th, and anything else that wants to hurt you..." Lightning responded with an equal amount of passion
"Why would they want to hurt me?" Vanille asked.
"'Cause you are so innocent and cute and nice and have a bright smile and uh..." Lightning trailed off with a blush on her face after realizing what she just said. Vanille didn't pay much mind to it.
"So you are going to protect me?" Vanille asked.
"Yes," Lightning said confidently.
"Really?" Vanille inquired again.
"Without a doubt," Lightning replied smoothly.
"Does this mean that you like me?" Vanille asked out of the blue through the series of questions.
"Eh!? Uh, no not in that way... wait, uh..." Lightning stammered out.
"So you don't like me?" Vanille teared up falsely, but Lightning didn't notice the false part because she was trying to avert her gaze.
"No it's not like that. Uh, okay. I like you. I really like you" Lightning made eye contact with the still moist eyes of Vanille.
"Really? Oh, goody!" Vanille returned to smiling brightly. "Why the sudden change of heart though?"
"Just 'cause," Light replied simply.
"Okay, I can live with that. Thanks Light!" Vanille hugged Lightning tightly with unforeseen strength.
"Your welcome Van, but you're, uh, crushing my spine."
"Oh, sorry."
"How did this go from a declaration, to an interrogation, then into a confession?" Light asked out loud.
"I don't know..." Vanille replied as she giggled.
'If she's that strong, I might be the one needing protecting...' Lightning thought as she walked back to camp, hand in hand with Vanille.
