Konohamaru was training, which wasn't out of the ordinary. At the time he was working on his aim with kunai. He threw one and as it hit the target he felt a pain stab his shoulder.
He reached around and grabbed his shoulder. When he felt the cold metal of a kunai, his eyes widened.
Quickly Konohamaru pulled the weapon out of his flesh then grabbed his shoulder again. This time he felt jolting pain and warm liquid. Blood.
Konohamaru winced slightly and turned to face his attacker. Instead he met about 20 more kunai that implanted themselves into every vital organ.
He fell to the ground and could only remain silent as he drew closer to death every second in a pool of his own blood.
The next morning Moegi and Udon went looking for their friend.
"Konohamaru-kun where are you?" Moegi called. The two pushed past some bushes and found Konohamaru's lifeless body surrounded in blood. Moegi let out an ear piercing scream and tears welled in her eyes. Immediately Ebisu was by their side. "Moegi, what's--" Then he saw Konohamaru's state. "Oh dear God!"
He looked the hysterical Moegi in her tearful eyes. "Moegi I need you to tell me what happened."
"I-I-I don't kn-kn-know. W-we were looking f-for Konohamaru-kuuun a-a-nd--." Moegi began bawling harder.
Ebisu hugged the young girl. "Calm down. We're going to report this. Alright?" Moegi could only cry. "Udon."
The sickly boy didn't respond. He merely collapsed on the ground and began shaking in terror.
Ebisu could only watch as his cell fell even more apart. His job had been to watch Konohamaru, make sure he wasn't hurt. He had failed to keep him from being killed, even within the walls of their own village.
"Moegi, I need you to calm down. Okay? Do you understand?" Ebisu told her. Moegi shuddered with her sobs, unable to get a hold of herself. Ebisu sighed and held the girl close to his chest. He reached for Udon and pulled the shaking boy next to Moegi.
At that moment Shizune came upon the scene.
A sharp gasp stuck in her throat. She and Ebisu exchanged a quick look and she disappeared in a puff of smoke. She reappeared at Tsunade's office door and threw it open.
Tsunade was sleeping over her work. "Tsunade-sama," Shizune said, shaking her mentor.
Tsunade woke up annoyed at the jonin. She was about to unleash her wrath at Shizune when she was interrupted.
"Konohamaru-kun's been murdered."
The anger that was once in Tsunade's eyes vanished at the news; her face became extremely serious.
"Any idea who killed him?" Tsunade said sharply, standing up.
"No."
"Where?" The hokage was shooting questions off almost faster than Shizune could answer.
"Training grounds, with kunai in his front." Shizune guessed Tsunade's next question but barely finished saying it before the blond ran past her. On the way out she kicked the door.
"Damn it!" echoed up the stairs.
