Chapter 1

Shadow!" A loud male voice shouts angrily.

"Scir?"

"what did you say?" with my speech problems my father didn't understand me.

"She said sir" My older brother Kai translates for me emotionlessly.

"How many times have I told you not to take books from my study?" Dad shouts angrily

"Tu many tu cownt" I answer sadly.

Kai translates "She said to many to count."

"Why can't you do something constructive with your time!" My dad yells at the top of his voice.

"I thaught reading was constrwtive?" I question simply.

You hear my dad slap me in the face hard I don't scream & Kai doesn't help because we know he will just hit us harder for it. I'm only three & Kai's seven.

"Hurry or we'll miss the boat" The sweet but agitated voice of my mom calls to Kai & my older sister Flare.

"I'm coming" Kai & Flare say in unison.

"Do you have Kyle's bags sweetie?" My mom asks me

"Yes mama" I answer slightly confused.

Kai almost 8, Flare almost 6, and I, at 4 had no idea way we were on a cruise and our brother Kyle, or bug boy as we called him, was too young to know anything any way. Later as I as looking through the books mother had kept in our cabin for me, the whistle my father uses for his Pokémon to obey him sounded. My ears already attuned to the sound were still affected by the high pitch of it.

What's that… sound…? "Ahh" Oh no it's-

A hyper beam fired through the center of the ship interrupts my thoughts. The ship lunges apart at first and throws me in to the L beam of a half dismantled shelf. I shriek as my shoulder blade is pierced. My glass shattering scream alert Kai and Flare to my distress and they come quickly to my aid. As Flare dose some quick patch work on my wound I ask

"Where's mom and bug boy"

"They…they were caught in the blast" Kai answers sadly.

"Oh" I say trying to hold myself together.

"Right" Kai and I say in unison. Flare was done patching me up and we ran for an upper deck and a life boat. The three of us didn't make it and we were thrown into the freezing ocean even though it's the middle of summer. Flare's patch work didn't hold and I didn't know what was worse drowning, bleeding to death or freezing to death. I've just turned 4 and my life is already ending. My speech was finally getting better and I was dying after all that hard work. I'm extremely smart for my age and I had spent the last year learning all of the things I would need once I left fathers house. And I was going to die anyway.

As my vision darkened I saw a small dark figure approach me in the freezing water. The last thing I remember is the Gengar pulling me out of the water. As the hypothermia took over I slipped into unconsciousness
