Fifth year girls were good for about two things. 1. A quick snog 2. Finding out what the seventh year girls were fighting about. On this particular Friday evening James potter, Frank Longbottom, Remus Lupin, Travis Bell, a hand full of third years and Sirius Black were using them for the latter. Under any other circumstances they would've had no interest in knowing what the girls were talking about, but in the past twenty minutes there had been some incidents, numerous screams had been heard along with lamps being thrown down the stairs. They had sent the three fifth years, Hestia Jones, Sidney Brown, and a short blonde girl, up to investigate.

"Mary is shouting at Evans" reported Hestia from the top of the stairs

"Yeah we figured that much! But what about?" Called Sirius, he looked over at James

"You know they've never really fought before, whatcha think happened" he questioned the head boy

"No clue, but Lily was fine earlier when we patrolled so it must've jus-"he was cut off short by a loud gasp from Blonde

"THEY'RE FIGHTING ABOUT BENJY!" she exclaimed excitedly. Benjy Fenwick was Lily's boyfriend, they had been dating since the start of winter term much to the disappointment of James.

"Alice is telling Lily to dump him'

"SHE SHOULD! BENJY'S A GIT" shouted someone

"SHUSH WE"RE TRYING TO LISTEN" yelled Hestia who currently had her ear up against the seventh year's door

"Okay Evans said "I'm not dumping Bejny! I'm perfectly happy dating him!" then Alice told her that was rubbish" Sidney informed them

A crowd started to gather that the end of the stairs, and with each new bit of information people started to speculate. Many believed Alice caught Benjy cheating and that she was trying to get Lily to dump him before she found out. Several people thought Lily was the one cheating, or that she was over the relationship and just too kind to break up with Benjy. James found most of the ideas ridiculous, he knew Lily and she wasn't the type of person to cheat, and as much as he hated to admit it Benjy was a nice bloke.

"MARLENE JUST SAID THAT LILY IS IN DENIAL"

"DENIAL ABOUT WHAT"

"ALICE SAYS SHE FANCIES JAMES" cried the blonde

Everyone froze and all eyes were on James, his hand shot up into his hair.

"Maybe you heard wrong" he suggested halfheartedly, he was in shock. Did Lily fancy him? Would she leave Fenwick?

"She's COMINGING!" Shrieked Hestia

"Lily just told Marlene to Bugger off and that whomever she dated was her choice and now Marlene said she's leaving" whispered Sidney to James

Marlene walked down the stairs and was greeted by 75% of the Gryffindors. She was half way down the stairs, trying her best to ignore the stares before an extremely mad Lily Evans ran and grabbed her arm pulling her back into their room. The fifth years went to listen but it seemed the Silencio charm had been casted. However they didn't have to wait long to figure out what happened seeing as Lily and Benjy Fenwick were no longer dating by Sunday morning.
