The Snow Globe

He walked outside and saw the snow falling. It was Christmas, the most magical time of the year. He couldn't have stopped the smile that spread across his face. He was happy; the happiest he had ever been. It was Christmas... and he was with the one he loved!

"Angie!" Junior called out as he ran into the cabin. "It's snowing!"

She lay in bed, her hair falling across her face. She sat up slowly, rubbing sleep her pale blue eyes. "What are you shouting about, Junior?" she asked with a frown.

"It's snowing. Just like in your snow globes!" he told her with excitement.

She got up quickly and put on her robe. She had to see this for herself. She took Junior's hand, and together they stood on the front porch of the cabin, watching as the snow gently fell on the cedars. Curiously, it wasn't even cold outside. Sure enough, the snow WAS falling, just like in all her precious snow globes.

"I love it!" Angie said as she gave Junior one of her brightest smiles. "Merry Christmas! I love you!"

"I love you, too. So much," he said as he stared into her sparkling eyes.

He pulled her close and held her. And quietly then, their moment began to fade, just like a long-ago dream. Had they ever been this happy? Really?

He was brought back to reality as he held one of her little snow globes in his hand. He shook it gently, watching as the snow fell lightly on a little cabin, just like the one he had seen in his dreams.

"Angie, I miss you so much," he said in a quiet whisper.

All he had now was her snow globes. He no longer had her. It was his first Christmas without Angie; his first Christmas with a broken heart.
