maybe he didn't want her to

The thing is, he had meant it.

He had even brought her that stupid bear.

That's what was really hilarious.

In the midst of all his serviceable lies - which she had barely bought - he had snuck in a little bit of truth. Wasn't there a saying about that? That truth is the best lie? Something his meditation-prone mother would spout. If she were alive.

He was technically just stating facts. Yes, she was brave, yes she was loyal, yes she was good. Any moron could see that.

What he hadn't counted on was for her to be all those things and still play by his own rules.

She had tricked him.

She had fucking tricked him.

Not once, but twice.

And she had done it out of selflessness. How the hell did that even make sense?

His Bible-loving aunts used to call him a little devil growing up, and it had never been meant as a term of endearment. No, it was his sister, the one he left alive, they called little angel.

But here's where things went astray: how could an angel beat a devil?

Wouldn't the angel then become just as bad?

So why was she still so fucking good? Why was she all light and justice and fire when she had stooped to his level?

And why did she get to walk this thin line between good and evil and come out victorious, whereas he…

Kai laughed hysterically.

Shit. I actually want to be like her, don't I?

He was supposed to be livid. He was supposed to want to tear her to pieces, obliterate her and scream his anger in her face.

"We're stuck here forever," she spat smugly.

And he wanted to rip her a new one. Make her regret ever crossing him, because he was the poster child for lost cases, cases you did not want to open. He was the vicious little boy who was doomed to bad things and he would be damned if he didn't fulfill that prophecy to a tee.

But instead, he grabbed her chin, almost gently and tipping it up, he said, with a bitter smirk on his lips:

"No. You're stuck here with me. You condemned yourself to an eternity with me."

Bonnie's satisfied smile faded as she looked into his eyes.

"And you know what happens to people who spend too much time with me? Hmm? Do you?"

Bonnie tried to wrench her chin away, but he kept her in place. His muscles yearned so much to grab and twist and wring the life out of her. Her delicious lithe body, strong and stubborn, in all the right ways. He exhaled deeply.

"They become the worst version of themselves."

Little angels turn into little devils.

"They start out hating me. But they end up hating themselves."

Bonnie frowned.

"I won't let you do that to me."

"I won't have to do anything. You think I was lying to you. Yeah, I'm full of shit, Bon Bon. But Ido want to find the rest of my miserable family someday. Because you know what? Death is just too good for them. No. Having me around is what they really deserve."

He grinned manically, watching the fear spread over her features. He needed her to believe it, every single word.

Because he wasn't so sure himself. He wasn't sure she would lose her spark.

And (fuck, fuck, fuck) maybe he didn't want her to.
