Unpredictable

If anyone would have told me back in high school that I would marry Ashley Davies, I would have considered it with a smile. But Ashley never was the type of person to settle for a permanent commitment. She was always the rebellious, unpredictable teenager and no one saw that changing.

It's been four years since high school, and now I'm taking my place at the alter. Everyone thought I would be the one to be walking down the isle, but this should be her day. It is her day. No one thought she would change her ways and be married. Out of all our high school friends, she's made the biggest changes. She fell in love, she isn't so rebellious and unpredictable anymore, and she's here on this day about to be a wife.

That's when I hear it, the change in melody, her time to shine. I turn my head to the two wooden doors and when they open, she's there with my father because he always did love her like his own. She looks so beautiful, walking slowly down the aisle, wearing a simple, yet elegant, white dress. Her smile, so contagious. Makes me smile for her, that smile reminds me of all our happy days. Days spent laughing, smiling, sharing whispers of love, and being together.

Then ceremony's almost over, there's just one more question left and I'm holding my breath at the moment, because she always was known to be unpredictable. When she's asked to be a wedded wife, her movements still, makes me nervous. She takes one look around the room and sees friends and family looking at her; waiting for her answer.

"I..." She's shaking, the audience won't notice because they're too far, but I see it. She's scared, maybe nervous. I don't know. Her answer comes as a whisper, anyone close to her can hear it. And I do.

"I can't... I'm so sorry." With that, she's running to the door.

Everyone's gasping and looking at her run outside. I don't even think and before I know it I'm doing what I've been doing since high school, chasing her. I'll always chase her.

When I get outside, she's standing at the end of the sidewalk. I make my way towards her, "Ashley..."

She doesn't turn around. "Spencer, please, just leave me alone."

"I'm not going anywhere. What happened back there? I thought you wanted this?" I say as I make my way in front of her.

She picks up her head to look me in the eyes. "I do. But you and I both know this isn't how it was supposed to be."

I'm not confused, I know what she's talking about and she's right. It was never supposed to be like this. So I answer her with the answer she knows, "I know."

"This is supposed to be our day. Not mine. It should've been us getting married."

"Not you and Aiden."

She looks down again, "Not me and Aiden. You being my Maid of Honour and being so close... I couldn't do it."

I grab her hand and tell her, "I'm sorry. But someday, it's going to be us. I promise. For now, let's get out of here." She looks up at me and smiles, letting me take her away.

I'll keep my promise. She knows I'm good for it. Before we get there, we'll make up for lost time. She was never his, she was always mine. Forever.
