Phil smiled to himself as he lay on the couch, his laptop in his lap as he browsed mindlessly through Twitter. There was nothing more comfortable than this- snuggled up in comfy pyjamas with a cup of coffee with only the soft crackling of his favourite candle disrupting the quiet of the flat.
Dan had long since fallen asleep, which was unusual for the night-blogging internet hobo he was, but the lack of sleep must have caught up to Dan. As Phil sat in the serene scene of lounge, he was left to his own thoughts as he closed his laptop for the night and placed it on the side table.
At this moment in time, Phil was thinking about Dan, and how much their bond had strengthened since they first moved into a flat together. To think how far they had come, and somehow built an empire on YouTube along the way! How the time had slipped through their fingertips and they were in an amazing place neither of them could have imagined getting to all those years ago.
Phil sighed heavily and finished off his coffee, setting his Lego mug next to his laptop on the side table. He felt happier than he had ever felt before, with his best friend at his side that was in the same situation as he. Phil realised that most of his life was spent with Dan, from his waking moments to the depths of the night. There was no problem with this, for with Dan by his side, his other half was complete. He and Dan had done nothing but support each other since the day they had met, and bring smiles to the other's face.
The term "best friends" was relative to their case, however not the correct term to describe the two's relationship. "Best friends" wasn't the pure joy they felt every day, or the happy buzz and clouded brains as a result of spending time and being in the company with one another. No, "best friends" was neither the look nor official name of the way they felt. What they felt was something more powerful than friendship that had strengthened their bonds.
Phil sighed and smiled down at Dan, who slept peacefully, his head resting on Phil's lap. Phil moved cautiously to lie next to Dan on the couch, wrapping his arms around his younger friend's middle. Phil closed his eyes and rested his face in the nape of Dan's neck, feeling himself slowly drift off into a peaceful slumber, with only one thought on his mind.
So this must be what love feels like.
Author's Note: I am dedicating this fic to a friend of mine named Katie, who has fallen in love previously, and who described to me what love feels like. To Trevor as well, who is in the process falling in love. To Lie, who is in love currently, and who writes and sings songs from the heart. Finally, I dedicate this to you, may you find love as you so desire (or you can just be a fangirl or fanboy or potato on the internet... that's cool too I won't judge).
