His sister. Gone.

He never thought it would happen. He knew the Prophecy in the Codex. One to save the world, one to destroy it. But now that it was coming true, he didn't want to believe it. She had left, putting the Prophecy into effect.

Josh had told his sister that the Flamels were not to be trusted. Dee pushed the idea even more. But she had not listened. She had stayed with them, and their ways. Had she been ordered to destroy Coatlicue by them? It would not surprise him. They were ordered around plenty by the Flamels when he was under their control. He hadn't realized it until then, but it was true. The Flamels had lied and manipulated them to do what they wanted. They had even lied about the previous twins…

But what now?

Sophie. She seemed like a stranger, even though she is, or was, his sister and best friend. Her golden blonde hair laying to rest across her shoulders. And her eyes. Those blue eyes that matched his to a T. They were twins; they were supposed to be there for each other, feel each other's pain.

Didn't she feel the pain that her betrayal was putting him through?

Unless she thought he betrayed her. That stung Josh, almost making him reel back. She couldn't think that. She hadn't trusted Dee, however. She seemed to trust the Flamels more than him, that's for sure. Even though they had played them.

Dee would tell the truth, Josh figured that out as he got to know him. The Flamels were liars, and couldn't be trusted. He also trusted Virginia Dare, because she seemed somehow, still humane. Same with Machiavelli. They both seemed to still have their humanity, and didn't try to manipulate Josh, as far as he knew. And Josh knew he still had his humanity because of the pain from Sophie.

What hurt most was that Sophie wouldn't listen to him. Her and Scatty had attacked Coatlicue without a second thoughts. Why would they? She was beautiful, and it just made no sense. He had tried to save the archon, but had failed. And he felt horrible about it.

Josh tried to sort through his thoughts of his sister. Pain was there. Betrayal was at the top of the list. Anger? He was pretty angry with her for sticking by the Flamels and not with him. Sadness, remorse? Josh nodded slightly at the thought. He had just lost his sister, after all.

And yet, Josh felt there was something else. No, it couldn't be… relief? I mean, sure, Josh kept thinking, I always have to watch out for her and have her by me all the time, and protect her, and keep her out of trouble… Maybe he did feel a slight bit of relief at not having to constantly protect her. She would have gotten mad if he heard that. Technically Sophie was older than him, but that's now how he saw it. But now he'd lost his sister, and didn't know if he could get her back. Could he?

He could always go back for Sophie. He was her brother; she'd have to listen to him. If he focused hard enough, he might be able to find her. But in the back of his mind, a nagging voice kept coming through his mind. It's too late, it told him. She's too far gone.

And even though he didn't want to listen and didn't want to believe, Josh knew the voice was speaking the truth. He had lost his sister, and it was too late to change her mind.

Sophie wasn't coming back to him. Not this time.

Wells? That was my first attempt at a one-shot, so don't kill me if it was bad. Reviews would be nice. Thanks :)
