A/N: Just a little one shot, it came out of nowhere. Hmm...

Merlin has magic. Merlin has magic. Merlin… has… magic.

Arthur couldn't believe it, but it happened. He saw with his own eyes, the most reliable eyes he knew. Merlin had used magic to defeat Morgana, and now she was dead. She was gone; never again would she threaten Camelot.

But Merlin has magic.

Arthur knew that he should call the knights, have them kill Merlin. But, he couldn't. Merlin had been his friend, his closest companion.

"I…" Merlin's pain clouded eyes opened as he stood from where he dealt the final blow. "I… I'm sorry."

Merlin betrayed him. Merlin has magic. Magic was illegal. Merlin was a sorcerer.

"I…" Merlin closed his eyes again, unwilling to look at Arthur. "Just kill me."

"You saved us, traitor. I will allow you to live." Merlin opened his eyes, a hopeful expression on his face.

"Arthur… I've always protected you, always used my magic for good." Merlin started to smile, but Arthur looked at him from the throne, glaring into Merlin's soul.

"However, to live you must give up your magic and leave Camelot forever."

Merlin gasped, tears forming in his eyes, "Sire," he looked down as if ashamed, "I am not a sorcerer…"

Arthur stood with a glare, and Merlin flinched. "You dare lie? We have all seen what you just did!"

"I am not a sorcerer, I am a warlock. I was born with my magic, it is instinctual. It is impossible to 'give it up,' as you want me to. I will have no control of it when I am in danger." Merlin looked out the window. His eyes glazed over slightly, "However, I will leave if you wish."

"Do not pretend you know nothing of the ancient ritual. Pull your magic out of you and release it, I command you to." Merlin closed his eyes in pain, and dropped his head. He clutched his chest as he glowed a golden hue, then opened his gold eyes wide as he pulled out a huge golden orb, larger than any other before it. Merlin smiled a sad smile, glanced at Gwen whose eyes were wide with fear and awe, looked at Gaius who was almost in tears, then settled his eyes on Arthur.

"As you wish Sire, for your word is my command. Goodbye..." He looked at the ceiling and let go of the orb. As the orb fell his form twisted into dust. "I'm coming Freya," softly resounded across the hall.

"You have done the unthinkable Arthur. You have killed the most powerful warlock in the only way possible. By breaking his heart," Gaius said.

And the story ends with a dragon's pain-filled roar, crying over the loss of destiny.

Finis.
