"What is wrong small one?" asked The Great Mother Goddess to her insistent companion The Cat.

"Nothing," replied The Cat," just getting restless again."

The Goddess looked speculatively as The Cat jumped off her throne and started to pace. She had thought that The Cat would get restless again soon; it had been a long time since he had been in the mortal realms. Quite frankly she was sick of him stealing her throne. The Goddess mused over ideas of what The Cat could do to keep himself occupied.

"I have an idea!" The Goddess suddenly said.

The cat looked up at The Goddess questioningly, "What is it?" he asked.

"You can look out for my newest favored one!" she replied smugly. This was a good plan, it kept The Cat busy and it kept her favored one safe.

The Cat looked down pondering, "I don't know," The Cat responded hesitantly. He had been in situations that The Goddess had suggested, that had not turned out particularly well, but then again he was quite bored and his last favored one had turned out quite well, if he did say so himself. But this was only one of the reasons he was hesitant.

"Why would you not want to?" The Goddess responded curiously.

"Well the last head strong girl I looked after didn't treat me very well. Just like a common cat!" The Cat responded exasperatedly. He remembered his remorse of living without the benefits of the realms of the gods.

"Did you tell her you weren't a common cat?" The Goddess asked amused.

"Well no," The Cat hedged anxiously washing his face.

"Well your last girl was a commoner, and this one is a noble," The Goddess replied knowing that he had often teased his last advisee with her un-noble treatment of him.

"Who is this girl you are trying to get me to protect anyway? You have been very close lipped about your latest project," The Cat asked curiously.

"Well, there is this noble girl that I am trying to get to become a knight. As you and all gods well know, Tortall is coming upon times of darkness. I thought if women warriors were more accepted than the volume of warriors would go up and Tortall would be better protected. Not only that but women would be have more freedom to do what they wanted," reeled off The Goddess.

"That makes sense," replied The Cat, "I am getting restless and as it is a noble this time… I will do it."

"Thank you my friend," replied the Goddess smiling.

"I wonder how I should go to her," wondered The Cat out loud.

"I have a plan for that. I have been planning to visit her to tell her of my favor for some time. You can come right after I visit her, so her supernatural experiences all happen at once," said The Goddess.

"Good plan. I wonder what she will name me. That is one of my favorite parts of living with a human, getting a new interesting name. I have had the names Blackie, Jarred, Rembrandt, Edward, Slippers, Shadow, Bear, and Pounce," states The Cat.

"Yes, mortals are very amusing aren't they," said The Goddess.

"What is the girl's name?" asked The Cat.

"Alanna," The Goddess replied.
