Civil War Soldier
I have been in the Great War
Seen many deaths in a ruin
My heart's been shattered by the whizzing bullets
I have nightmares of the battles I was in
They say I have soldier's heart
I say what that is that
No one answers and say what a man I am
But does that mean having no sleep at night
That I have to go through mental issues
Just so I can survive
Life's nightmares haunt me day and night
I remember the cold
But I remember when the war was finished
They said we could go home
Oh the joy the happiness
My family
That was the best
After so many years seeing my kids
All safe and sound
Though I will always be haunted by the thoughts and ghosts of the war
My family is always there for me
