Ashley's Room
Spencer finds some veneer of peace in Ashley's room.
There is something about the high, golden windows with the gentle sheer curtains. Something about the fact that there's always music playing. It always smells like honeysuckle. The walls opening up and holding them in. The bed always soft and warm and welcoming, welcoming of a girl who has cried often in its embrace, welcoming with room for a friend.
The real peace is found, though, when Ashley lets her guard down- as she only seems to do in front of Spencer and Spencer alone. Sometimes asleep, sometimes drifting and daydreaming quietly. There is something about Ashley's room.
In these moments, flashes of a young girl shining through Ashley's hardened, teenage, angst-ridden shell. Trust, love, tenderness.
In these moments in Ashley's room that Spencer wonders which of them is really the innocent one.
