Agent Scully studied the X-Ray of her skull. She couldn't put into words how she felt about the realization that she had cancer. Even thinking the words, "I have cancer" , didn't help her come to terms or understand what she would be going through.
She knew everyone she loved would be devastated by the news. Especially her mom. Now that Melissa had passed away, Scully knew she was her mom's only daughter now. By getting sick, Scully felt she let her Mom down, and herself.
She knew that this was the one thing that Mulder would not accept, and she felt somewhat frustrated by that. She understood his concern for her, but, she had worked with him for four years, and even though she didn't accept some of his theories, she managed to accept some things she couldn't explain. So why couldn't Mulder accept this and what was happening to her?
Scully bit her lip and tried hard not to cry. She would have to find the strength and tell her family - Bill, her Mom, and her nephew. Scully had never felt more vulnerable in her life.
With a sad sigh, she sadly took out her cell phone and dialed Mulder's number. He picked up on the second ring. "Mulder," he said, and Scully knew he was expecting to hear her voice. "Mulder, it's me. I need you to come to DC General. Something's come up. I'm sick," she said. Then she took a deep breath, anticipating Mulder's reaction.
There was a pause before Mulder spoke in the concerned tone that she knew he would respond with. "You're sick? What are you talking about, Scully? What do you mean?" Mulder asked.
"Are you going to be okay, Scully?" He asked. Scully took another deep breath. "I'm afraid not, Mulder," she said simply. "Why?" Mulder asked again anxiously. Scully had never heard him sound so worried before, and she didn't like it.
"It's about the effect that the implant from my abduction is having on my brain," she told him, managing to sound calm and professional as she studied the X-Ray, her doctor manner coming into play, helping her to break the news to her partner.
Somehow, telling Mulder made it all seem real, and Scully felt a tear trickle down her cheek and splashed onto the X-Ray. She wiped the tear off before continuing to talk to Mulder. "I need you to come to the hospital so I can explain.
Please come as soon as you can, Mulder," she said. There was an uncertain pause before Mulder answered, "Sure. I'll be right there," he said before hanging up. Scully hung up, too.
She wanted to share the news with Mulder first before telling her family. Maybe this way she would get some answers as to what is happening to her and the other women from the MUFON network. She knew something had to be done, and, once Scully set her mind to something, it was hard to talk her out of it.
