No chance. No chance. No chance.
He was going crazy, the thoughts swirling around in his head were driving him bonkers, mad! They wouldn't stop, he couldn't change them. Optimistic Potter was cracking and cracking faster with each passing day. Worse were the voices that spoke.
No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance.
Calm cool and collected Moony said in a matter of fact voice, all his worst fears spoken so logically. Brush it off! Keep faith! Hold it together just a little longer! He was holding on for a while, but slipping each day. Remy, the smart one, never wrong. Please be wrong! No one could predict the future, if he was cracking, maybe she was? Pleaseā¦..
No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance.
Quiet whispers continually getting louder and louder. They started to drown out reason and thought and everything. After plastering a smile on his face after a failed attempt, again, the professors softly said it to each other. Her ever saying yes? Never, not gonna happen. He heard the words, he always had, just used to ignore their voices.
No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance. No chance. NO CHANCE!
The rain, soft and warm, was what broke him and ruined him. Just walking on the grounds, when the rain started and made him despair. Each drop that fell was another voice, that wasn't crazy, telling him just what he didn't want to hear. They wouldn't stop screaming him, no matter how hard he grasped at his head trying to squeeze them out. His feet must have kept moving for he stumbled in his stupor into the shallows of the Black Lake.
NO CHANCE! NO CHANCE! NO CHANCE!NO CHANCE! NO CHANCE! NO CHANCE!
Lily's voice was screaming at him, this time in his head. Through the voices sounding inside his head made him think the water would calm him. He walked further and surprisingly the voices quieted. Well except one, it was a low baritone. His feet couldn't get purchase so he started swimming towards the center of the water. This new voice was screaming now. Arms that were attached to his body were getting tired out, so tired.
"NO CHANCE WITH LILY!" Was being screamed from somewhere, the girl in question realized as she left her last class. It was coming from the lake. She had to meet her friend at the library, but a five minute detour couldn't hurt.
He realized the voice was his and because of the exhaustion he slipped below the water. Instantly he popped back up above the water line. Then realization hit him. The voices ALL stopped under water! By this time Lily had reached the shore and found out it was James who was in the middle of the lake.
She was just at the shore, when he came to this realization. James screamed his last "NO CHANCE WITH LILY!" then went under forever.
"JAMES!" Lily shrieked. It dawned on her that he wasn't coming back up, ever. That fact hit her as she fell to the ground. "You had every chance!" She was sobbing now, it was all her fault. Too scared of love, with too much foolish pride ruined everything and it was all her fault. Laying on the ground, she whispered "
All my fault, all my fault, all my fault, all my fault, all my fault, all my fault, all my fault."
