Friends Forever: A Freedom Fighter's Story

------------------------------------------------------------------

He was their leader. He had helped unite them when they were lost with nowhere to turn. They had all been alone, scared, and hungry. He had helped them find strength and ways to survive. He had gained their loyalty and respect. They would follow him, no matter where that took them.

After the Avatar and his friends had left their mark on him, he had tried to become a better person, a better leader. He had traveled with the two of them to Ba Sing Se to search for a new life. Many things had happened. The old man and his nephew, the Dai Li, Katara finding him, and finally, they were reunited.

Then, they had gone on another mission with the Avatar and his companions. They couldn't have known it would be their last.

They had been seperated for moments too long. They had entered the room with the sight of their leader lying on the floor, unmoving.

Katara had tried to heal him, but she wasn't able to. They had asked the others to leave. He was their leader. They should be the ones to take care of him.

After the others had left, tears had filled their eyes and spilled over the sides. He was in pain and dying slowly. He had asked them to end it, and they had tried to before the Dai Li had filled the room. The first battle had already tired them. They stood no chance.

As they lay on the ground, each on one side of him, they each reached for a hand. Slowly, their eyes closed, as they let go of life to join him. He had greeted them happily on the other side, and they felt no more pain.
