Well, this one-shot just… came to me(: It's about what Clare was thinking when she saw Eli the day after the play at school leaving.
Clare Edwards watched as her current boyfriend walked out of the room and her fake smile immediately vanished from her pale complexion.
She wasn't happy.
Anyone with eyes could see that; except for Jake and her parents. They thought she was as happy as ever. But things got worse after the play the previous night. Everything he said so livid in her mind.
"What script? There's no script, you can't write your life!"
"No matter how much all of you want a happy ending, you can't have it!"
"Your mind tricks you into thinking everything's fine, but it's not; I'm not."
And when he set the script on fire and his knees gave in from under him she felt tears in her eyes. When she heard Ms. Dawes clapping she realized everyone thought it was apart of the play, but it wasn't; it was real.
Everything he said was real and she was one of few who knew that.
She was relieved when she couldn't find him at the after party and her and Jake drove back to her house in silence. She was so upset with how the play turned out; it just killed her.
She had never seen Eli so broken; so… so…
Vulnerable.
She couldn't come to grips with the fact that the Eli she saw on that stage was once the Eli she loved; correction, still loves.
These were the things she thought about as she slowly exited the classroom and all of a sudden it seemed as if time stopped for some odd reason. He was but not five feet away from her and she and him locked eyes for a mere few seconds as she stopped dead in her tracks, but he kept walking.
He was dressed in his regular clothes and he had on his favorite guitar pick necklace; he had given that necklace to her on their seventh date.
But she threw it right back in his face a few weeks after he was out of the hospital. Everything he had ever given her she dumped right outside his locker and walked away.
She regretted it every time she happened to see him wearing the necklace.
She suddenly felt all these whirlwind of emotions course through her and she watched him as he walked towards the front doors with this swag to his step; like he was trying to impress her and tell her something. That he was no longer insane and was getting better. He was changing.
And she was unhappy.
He had Imogen and didn't need her.
He was over her.
She felt a pang in her heart, because she knew she would never get over Eli Goldsworthy; ever. It just couldn't be done and here he was walking away from her leaving her a message.
It's over.
And in all honesty she just wanted to break down and cry as she clutched onto her jacket for dear life. It was horrible that she felt that way, but she did. She could almost feel his lips turn upward into a satisfied smirk; she knew he was smirking, she just felt it.
But Clare Edwards was wrong.
Very wrong.
He was still unhappy.
He didn't have Imogen and he still needed her.
He wasn't over her.
This was only the beginning.
The horrible and long beginning.
Okay, so I know it was short, but I think it was okay if I say so myself.(: Leave a review!
