AN: Howdy. So, I got bored in Chem and wrote a little drabble. It's Puck holding Beth in the hospital and his thought process. its short and a little corny but eh enjoy:)
Disclaimer: don't own glee. no profit.
He only held her for five minutes. That's it. Five minutes. That's all he really needed.
He felt her soft breath on his arms, the slow rise and fall of her body as she inhaled and exhaled. Her heartbeat matched his as he rocked her back and forth, back and forth.
A million thoughts raced through his mind as he ran a finger across her satin cheek, but his mind was numb to everything but her.
She was so small, so vulnerable, so delicate, fragile. He held her hand, her tiny fingers wrapping around his thumb, He felt her light pulse as he hummed.
Holding her was like an epiphany, a sudden and powerful realization- he wasn't useless. Look what he made, this beautiful baby girl, this beautiful baby girl with infinite possibilities. He created her. She's a piece of him, and look how amazing she is. if he didn't do anything for the rest of his life, he wouldn't care, because the biggest accomplishment he'll ever do is sleeping in his arms.
But, seeing her, touching her, feeling her made him realize something else. He wanted to do right by her. Even if she never sees him again. He wants to be something she can be proud of. He didn't want to be like his father. If she ever needed him, if she ever wanted to see him, he would be there, waiting with open arms. Always.
He was surprised by how much love he could pour into one little person. He's held her for two minutes, known her for two minutes and already he would die for her. And then some. He didn't know he was capable of such love. Maybe there's a lot he didn't know about himself.
She cooed slightly and adjusted herself in his arms. He sat down in the plastic hospital chairs and cradled her. He wishes he could keep her, stay with her, teach her, show her how much he loves her. He knows he can't. She's better off. He hopes she'll find him. His baby girl, his little Beth.
The steady beat of time passed as he held her. He made a promise to her, his little girl. If you need me, I'll be there. If you want me, I'll be there. He shifted in the chair and Beth sighed in her slumber.
I want you to know how much I love you and how much you mean to me. I want you to know how perfect you are, no matter what. I know we haven't been the best, I know you deserve better. But, you're so beautiful, a beautiful baby girl. You will do amazing things. And I can't wait to see them.
He stood up and walked her to her crib. He placed her in an covered her with her blanket. Goodbye, little girl, my Beth. Until we meet again.
