Vincent

He stared at the wall in front of him in anguish. Why was he still alive? She did it. She brought him back, only to leave him so shortly after. Lucrecia. Anger welled up inside of him to the point that he thought he would burst from it. His chest hummed, the materia glowing slightly beneath his black clothing, reflecting off his silver necklace of Cerberus. Control the Chaos. She had made him this monster, this powerful creature. He had been dead, shot in the chest, but she had brought him back as one of her many experiments. He had loved her; he loved her still. Why Lucrecia? The plaguing questions never left him alone; never let him forget. Forever. He was to be punished for this love forever. And she was gone. Vincent closed his eyes, trying to allow the wound to heal. Forever.

The wall before him exploded in a shower of rubble. He was up and out the window before the first piece of debris hit the floor. Soldiers poured into the deserted room, searching for the one man that could ever have control over the dreaded Chaos. The only man capable of becoming so incredibly powerful. He was the key to their plans, the key that would unlock the secret of immortality. The one problem that concerned Weiss, power-mad commander of the Deepground Soldiers, was that it would be impossible for his soldiers to ever hope of capturing the allusive man. He needed to lure him in, setting some kind of trap. It would be difficult, seeing as how the only ones Vincent would ever risk his life to save were great fighters on their own. Cloud, Yuffie, Red XIII, Cid, Barret…All would need to be tricked into the trap as well.

Running on rooftops, Vincent swiftly retreated into the night. Those infernal soldiers again. Yet another problem never to cease plaguing him. Scientists, as well as men dreaming of ultimate domination, wanted the power of Chaos held within Vincent's body, waiting to be unleashed again. Never Again. Vincent's eyes narrowed in hate. The beast within would never be allowed to take control, not as long as he could help it. A monster he was, but Lucrecia had left him the ability to control the animal inside by the protomateria placed in his chest. He needed to hide; he needed a new secret place, one where no one would find him again. Ever again.

Soldiers poured into the small town of Kalm, the place Vincent had hidden himself in. Helicopters and motorcycles converged at the town's center and lights flashed everywhere in the night. People were being taken away in big steel containers while others were being slain in the streets. Vincent watched with what seemed like uncaring eyes, shooting those who attacked him with his deadly aim. In a flash of flying rubble and burning fire, the portion of roof directly in front of him exploded, shot by missiles coming from the helicopter chasing him down. Easily avoiding the fatal blast, Vincent jumped to a different roof, continuing to shoot at the soldiers invading the city.

Vincent saved many lives that night, but he didn't stop all from falling to the Deepground Soldiers. After meeting with the massive Azul and short but stocky Shelke, two of Weiss' leaders commanding the Tsviets, Reeve appeared and taught him all he knew concerning Deepground.
