Okay, I saw the USA CI season premiere promo, and it freaked me out! When Alex was in the ER, I saw Ross, but I didn't see Bobby, but she was crying, which led me to two possible scenarios. The person on the stretcher is someone in Alex's family, or (gulp) it's Bobby. Which makes sense. So I wrote this. It begins with Alex demanding to know what happened as she's running alongside the stretcher. Enjoy, and please remember to review!

Disclaimer: They're not mine. But now that they're USA's... (grins wickedly)

Huge thanks go to InfinityStar and The Confused One, for all their lovely ideas and ability to deal with my insane hyperness and stuff. Thanks!

"What the hell happened?"

It wasn't supposed to be like this. She kept shutting her eyes and reopening them, praying to God that she'd wake up in the squadroom and that this was all a nightmare. Then he would smile at her and point his finger in her direction and say something about sleeping on the job.

But this was no dream. No, it was a nightmare. A real, horrifying nightmare. And there would be no waking up from it.

She winced when they pushed his stretcher a little sharply around a corner, and she carefully wrapped her fingers around his much larger hand. She could see the blood seeping through the white dressing covering the wound in his abdomen, and she jumped when she felt his hand tighten around hers.

Looking down, she realized that his eyes were open slightly, and she laid her free hand on his chest gently. She tried to smile reassuringly at him, but fear reflected in his eyes, sending sharp pains through her own heart. How could this have happened? Why wasn't she there? Why hadn't she protected him?

"You can't go any further, Detective," one doctor told her firmly, and her eyes narrowed at the idea of being forced from her injured partner's side. Before she could argue, Ross's hand closed over her forearm, and she bristled but didn't fight.

Instead, she leaned over and, in a rare display of public affection, she kissed his forehead softly. "Hang in there, Bobby," she whispered, stroking his damp curls. The fear left his eyes, and he managed to squeeze her hand back in response before he lost consciousness again.

She reluctantly released his hand, and she watched through tear filled eyes as they rushed him out of her sight.

"He'll be fine, Detective," Ross said shakily, and she glared at him before walking away to find somewhere to sit and wait. Something she was loathed to do.

What the hell happened? That question repeated itself over and over in her mind, haunting her like a bad song she was unable to stop. She dropped down into a chair and wrapped her arms around herself. All she wanted was to see her partner's smiling face, to hear him tell her to stop worrying about him, even though they both knew that she wouldn't.

Damn it, Bobby, she thought as she stared at her bloodstained hands. He had to pull through. There were so many things she had to tell him, that he had to know. She just prayed to God that there was still time.

"Bobby." Tears spilled down her cheeks as she whispered his name, and she feverishly hoped that, in a few hours, he would be smiling at her and telling her to go home, even though she wouldn't. She would stay there for as long as it took, as long as she didn't lose him.

Please. Don't go. Don't leave me.

What the hell had happened?

The End

A/N: So, what'd ya'll think? I'd be worried if it is Bobby, but with the way Blind Spot went, I doubt that Alex would leave his side once she was allowed into his hospital room. Which could prove very interesting and intense, right? Thanks so much for reading! Now drop me a line and spread the love, everyone!
