Privilege
By: Kalynda Braithwaite
Though lives were lost
it wasn't in vain.
They stuck it out,
through torture and pain.
They fought for their freedom.
They fought for their rights.
They took time to listen
to our shameless plights.
They fought for their country.
They fought for their lives.
They fought for their pride.
For daughters, brothers, sisters, and wives.
They fought for truth.
They fought for love.
They fought for the freedom
that you wear like a glove.
So forget not these soldiers,
so brave and so true.
For what they fought for
was the red, white, and blue.
