I love Swiftpaw and it was really sad that he died. Swiftpaw deserves a story written about him. This is his point of view of the dog attack. One-shot. Hope you like it!
I looked over my shoulder at Brightpaw.
"This way!" I whispered.
It wasn't fair that only Cloudpaw got to be a warrior. We all worked just as hard as him, but still Bluestar only let him be a warrior. But I had an idea. If Brightpaw and I did something really brave, she'd make us warriors too. All of the ThunderClan cats wanted to know what was stealing our prey around Snakerocks, and we would find out. It was a brilliant idea.
Brightpaw looked really nervous.
"It'll be fine!" I assured her, "No one will notice that we're gone."
Brightpaw looked unsure, but she followed me anyway. We crept through the elder's den, being careful not to wake anyone. I showed Brightpaw the way out through the ferns, and she silently went through them. I followed her. As soon as we were both out of the camp, we ran. We raced through the leaves and my paws tingled. Soon we would be warriors! My mentor, Longtail, would be so proud! Brightpaw slowed down, but I kept running. The smell near Snakerocks made me shudder, but we had to find out what was stealing our prey. I leapt over a fallen tree.
"Swiftpaw!" Brightpaw hissed, "Be careful!"
I looked around Snakerocks.
"Don't worry!" I called to her, "There's nothing here!"
A look of horror froze on Brightpaw's beautiful face, and before I had time to see what was wrong, I felt something clamp around my neck. A dog. The biggest dog I had ever seen, it was about four times the size of me. There was a huge pain in my neck, and the dog lifted me up and shook me around. I tried to scratch the dog, but he shook me around. The dog released its grip, and I flew over to the other side of the clearing. There was a big crash as I landed, and my shoulder hurt so much, but I had to keep fighting. Brightpaw ran over to me. I stood up, ignoring the screaming pain in my shoulder. I was really scared, but I thought Brightpaw and I could defeat the dog. Brightpaw scratched the dog's face, and I felt confidence. But there were others. At least six other dogs ran at us, growling so loudly that it shook the forest.
"Pack, pack," the dogs roared, "Kill, kill."
I snarled and ran at a dog. I darted under a dog and raked its underbelly with my claws. The dog yelped, then picked me up in his mouth and shook me around. His teeth sunk into me, and I felt weaker and weaker. The dog threw me at another dog, who picked me up in his mouth. I started to feel dizzy. The dog threw me away like crowfood. I painfully got up and started to scramble up a nearby tree. I felt like I could make it to the top, and be safe from the dogs clutches. But then I felt a dog bring me down with huge paws, and the wind was crushed out of me. The dog raked its claws over my face and neck. Blood filled my eyes. I knew I wouldn't make it. I just hoped Brightpaw was okay. The dog ran off to find her.
"Brightpaw," I rasped.
The only reply was snarling and growling.
"Brightpaw," I repeated.
I couldn't continue. Everything went black and I heard the dogs snarl one last time.
"Pack, pack. Kill, kill."
In memory of Swiftpaw. Hope you liked it.
