Part One (The Meeting):

It was nearing midday, and the endless snowfall had finally ceased. In the mountain was a small house, where the faun Tumnus lived. The faun was sitting in a chair beside the fireplace with his guest sitting across from him. His guest was not a badger or beaver, but a teenaged lioness. She had golden fur with a dark brown ring around her neck, which made a point that looked like a tooth. This young lion had traveled far to free herself from the White Witch's clutches.

"Yes, yes, a human girl was here," Tumnus said, looking into the lion's amber eyes.

"Do you know what this means faun?!" the lion exclaimed. "The prophecy is starting to come true. Haven't you seen the snow slowing?"

Before Tumnus could reply, there was a knock on his house door. The lion rounded ears perked up, as did her head. She got up with a nod to the faun and bounded over to the door with her tail down. Jumping onto her hind paws, she turned the knob and the door open; there stood the human girl Tumnus had told her about. "Lucy Pevensie?" the lion asked, getting back onto her four paws.

"Yes? Who…" Lucy began and looked further into Tumnus's house. "Mr. Tumnus! You're alright!"

The faun got to his hooves and was embraced with a hug from the human child. Kicking the door shut, the lion padded over to the faun and Lucy. "Allow me to introduce myself," she said. "I am Amber, a friend of Tumnus."

"Very nice to meet you!" Lucy smiled, patting Amber's head. She took a seat beside her friend and watched as the lion leapt onto another chair. Lucy's head tilted to the side as she looked at the lion's pelt, there was blood on her right shoulder.

Tumnus broke Lucy's curiosity by starting to explain what had happened since their last encounter. Amber rested her head on her forepaws and listened inattentively. Lucy started to talk about her three siblings, this caught the young lion's attention. When Lucy started to talk about her eldest brother, Amber butted in. "How old is your brother?" she asked, with a slight smirk.

"Sixteen, why do you ask?" Lucy asked. (I'm changing the ages because they fit better with my storyline)

"It was just a question, I'm entitled to be curious," Amber replied, lifting her head up. "Isn't it best for you to be going?"

"Why?" Tumnus asked as Lucy stood up and tied her robe tighter to shield her from the cold.

"I shouldn't stay for too long, I just wanted to make sure that you were alright," Lucy smiled. "The White Witch may still be watching."

Tumnus walked Lucy to the door and Amber jumped off the chair she was laying on. "I'll walk Lucy back to the lamp post," she said. "Just incase the secret police sniff her out."

Tumnus nodded and hugged Lucy good-bye before he watched them bound down the snowy hill. The pure white blanket of snow was so deep that Amber's legs were barely able to travel through it. Lucy and Amber continued in silence, occasionally glancing around the area searching for any unwanted visitors. They traveled further into the woods, the trees thickening around them making it harder to see any enemies that may be prowling around.

It took a matter of ten minutes to reach the lamppost. Lucy stopped and turned to the young lion. "Thank you," she smiled, scratching the lion's head.

Amber's head turned to the side, someone or thing was coming their way. Lucy stepped forward, and then started to run down the slope toward the way she had came to Narnia from. Amber ran after her, her claws unsheathing and digging into the snow; she wasn't going to let ANYONE stop the prophecy from coming true, too many people have suffered. The young lion's heart raced as she imagined who was on the other end of the slope: Maugrim, or the White Witch herself? "Edmund!" Lucy exclaimed a little ways ahead of her, which made her worries slowly vanish.

Amber's muscles relaxed, and she stopped at the top of the slope looking down at the two siblings. Edmund was Lucy's youngest brother, Amber noted and then wondered how he got to Narnia when he believed it didn't existed. Also, what had he been doing out here and how long has he been there. Her amber eyes gazed upon the two siblings, especially the confused and possessed expression on the young boy's face. She gazed at them once more before turning tail and bounding back into the deep part of the woods.

About a week in Narnia passed since little Lucy and her brother Edmund returned to their home. All had seemed quiet until the secret police showed up at Mr. Tumnus' doorstep. The faun and Amber had attempted to fight the pack of wolves off, and were unsuccessfully. However, the wolves had only taken Tumnus back to the Queen's fortress in the middle of the two tallest mountains in Narnia; they had left Amber unconscious in Tumnus's home under a fall support beam.

The broken door of Tumnus' house creaked open as the four Pevensie siblings entered the house with little Lucy at the lead. "What happened here?" Lucy asked, gazing around the trashed home. Edmund bent down and looked at a broken photograph of Mr. Tumnus's father, now he believed that the faun really did exist.

Lucy looked down at the far corner of the home, where a fall support beam was. She shrieked and ran over, a patch of golden fur could be seen and young Lucy knew that it was Amber underneath the beam. "Peter, Edmund, you've got to help me!" Lucy exclaimed after attempting to move the beam herself.

Her brothers didn't move, until she shot them the evil look. "On three," Peter said, "one, two… three!" Each lifted the beam from one end, giving Lucy and Susan a few seconds to pull the unconscious lion from out from under the beam. Lucy shook the lioness's body, hoping that she would wake, but she didn't.

"Lucy, I'm so sorry," Susan said, holding her sister close as she began to frown and squeeze her eyes tightly together to prevent crying.

"Um, Lu," Peter said, kneeling beside his younger sister. "No need to cry… look, she's getting up."

Lucy looked at the slowly moving and moaning lion. Her frown turned into a delighted smile as she embraced Amber at the moment she lifted her head. "What happened!?" she asked, hugging the lioness tighter.

"Hey, look at this," Edmund said, ripping down a piece of paper that was nailed onto the pole in the middle of the house. "Faun Tumnus is hereby arrested for the crime of fraternizing with a human, by the orders given by Jadis. Sighed, Maugrim of the secret police… long live the Queen."

"I think that explains it," Amber muttered, slowly rising to her paws. She gazed at Lucy's three siblings, and took great interest in Peter. Smirking, she arched her back, stretching out her tense muscles.

"Maybe we should contact the police!" Lucy suggested, looking from Amber to Susan.

Susan shook her head, and was in shock that the lion spoke. "The lion can talk? That's impossible! Anyways, these are the police. If he's been arrested for being with a human, then there really isn't much we can do," the oldest sister said, resting a hand on Lucy's shoulder. "I'm sorry Lucy."

"You don't get it, do you? I'm the human! The White Witch must have found out he helped me," Lucy frowned, looking down at Amber and gasped at the gash on her shoulder where the dried blood had been. "You're hurt!"

"It's not big deal," Amber shrugged, wincing at the pain in her shoulder as she lifted it up and down.

"Psst!" a little blue bird whispered from outside the house, catching Susan's attention right away.

Susan looked over her shoulder and then back at her siblings. "Did that bird just 'Psst' us?" she asked, looking down at Amber before leading the way out of Tumnus's house.

The little blue bird flew off the branch it had been perched on, sending a pile of snow onto the tree roots on the ground. Amber's claws unsheathed and her neck fur started to bristle; she heard it, they all heard it: something was stalking them. Peter looked around frantically as the sound of moving bushes echoed through his head. Edmund did the same, but was less worried as to what it was.

A brown figure appeared at the top of a snow bank, it was a slightly overweight beaver. The beaver looked up at the humans and lion and started to creep forward. He stopped as Amber yowled a loud warning to stay back. Her bared her long jagged fangs at the beaver, not wanting to take any chance that he was working for the White Witch. However, before she could do anything, Peter stepped forward with his hand extended. Did he think that the beaver was going to sniff it?

Peter's hand was a few inches away from the beaver's face. The beaver looked at the hand and then up at Peter's face. "I ain't going to smell it, if that's what you want," the beaver said with a hint of sarcasm behind his tone.

"Oh, uh, sorry," Peter said, backing up to stand next to his family. Amber relaxed, now she recognized who this was: Beaver, a friend of Mr. Tumnus'.

Beaver looked at Lucy and waddled forward with a hanky in his hand. "Are you Lucy Pevensie?" he asked, holding the hanky out in front of him.

"Yes. Hey! That's the hanky I gave Mr. Tum…" Lucy said.

"Tumnus, yes. I was able to get it while they were dragging him away," Beaver nodded, giving her the hanky and looking at the lioness. "And you… Amber your name was?"

"Yes," the lion nodded.

"Okay, follow me to a safer place to stay," Beaver said, racing to the snow pile where they first had seen him. He disappeared behind it. Amber started to walk forward, but stopped when she didn't her the footprints of the humans behind her.

"Peter, you honestly don't think that it's a good idea to follow him!" Susan exclaimed, while Edmund stared out into space not wanting to get in between his sister when she was angry.

"He says he knows the faun," Peter pointed out, with a 'come on' look.

Susan rolled her eyes. "He's a beaver, he shouldn't be saying anything!" she exclaimed. Lucy looked up as Beaver appeared on the pile again.

"Is everything alright?" he asked, looking at them.

"Yeah, we were just talking," Peter explained.

"That's best saved from indoors," Beaver said and disappeared behind the pile again.

Amber looked over her injured shoulder. "He's talking about the trees, many of them are on her side," she said and motion with her head for them to follow her and Beaver.

Susan sighed as she started to drag herself after her siblings and the beaver. Amber padded slowly beside Peter, and occasionally glanced up at him to set her amber eyes upon his handsome warrior-like face. She felt as if there were butterflies in her stomach, but she knew that she would have to let them flutter away since and lion and a human could never had a good relationship.

Beaver led them through a vast number of ancient places in the Narnia Woods, places that many people forget existed. It started to flurry by the time they reached the outskirts of Beaver's home. The scent of a fire lingered in the air and made their mouths water at the thought of something to eat.

"Beaver, it's wonderful!" Lucy smiled, gazing at the small hut.

"Yeah, ain't it? Not quite finished though…" Beaver replied, with a little pride in his tone. He led the way down the final slope of their journey, just in time before the night hits the horizon.

Another beaver stormed out of the house, yelling at Beaver that he better not have been out with Badger again. She nearly had a heart attack when she saw Amber before she noticed the humans. "Oh, those aren't badgers!" she smiled, looking at her husband. "You couldn't even give me ten minutes notice! Look at my fur."

"You look lovely dear," Beaver assured her, and told the humans to follow him into the house.

Edmund hesitated before following his siblings into the little house. He gazed up at the two largest mountains on the horizon, there lived the White Witch. Amber padded up beside him, "Come, you'll catch a cold." She smiled and flicked her tail in his face as she bounded after the others. He turned, still looking at the mountains, but followed the lion into the Beaver's house.

Mrs. Beaver had a warm fire going inside the house, which made it feel more comforting. Peter, Susan and Lucy sat around the dining table with Beaver while Mrs. Beaver prepared some fish and chips for them. Amber sat in the shadowed corner of the Beaver's house, not wanting any part of what they were going to talk about. Edmund sat near her, with his arms crossed and an annoyed look etched across his face.

Mrs. Beaver placed a plate of fish and chips in front of the humans and sat beside Beaver. She had a huge smile across her face and her puffy cheeks made her even more mother-like. Lucy asked about where they would take Mr. Tumnus.

"They'll take him to the witch's castle. There are few that go in there that come out," Beaver replied, with a grim voice.

"But there is hope dear!" Mrs. Beaver cut in. "Lot's of hope!"

Amber smirked, of course there was a lot more than hope.

"See," Beaver continued. "Aslan is on the move."

Edmund had gotten up at the mention of 'hope'. He, as well as his siblings were puzzled as to who Aslan was. Amber sulked in the shadowed corner, obviously she didn't like the topic of Aslan.

"Who's Aslan?" Edmund asked, walking out into the light.

"You've got to be joking!" Beaver exclaimed, throwing his arms up in frustration. "See: Aslan's return, Tumnus' arrest, it's all 'cause of you!"

Susan was offended by what the beaver said. "You're blaming us?!" Susan asked for clarification. Amber chuckled slightly at this.

"No, dear, no! Not blaming, thanking you!" Mrs. Beaver smiled, looking at Beaver.

Beaver sighed deeply. "They don't even know about the prophecy!" Beaver exclaimed, throwing up his arms again.

"Well, then…" Mrs. Beaver replied, motioning with her hands for Beaver to tell the puzzled family.

"There's a prophecy, y'see. 'When Adman's flesh and Adam's blood sits at Cair Paravel in throne, the evil time will be over and done'," Beaver recited the prophecy from memory.

Mrs. Beaver pointed at the two girls and then the boys. "It has long been foretold that two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve will defeat the White Witch and restore peace to Narnia!"

"You have to be mistaken, we're not heroes," Peter replied, looking at Susan.

"Well, you better be! Aslan's already building up your army by the Stone Table!" Beaver exclaimed. "And don't think that you'll be doing it alone. There's a second prophecy, y'see: One thought lost will rule beside the High King. That's you Peter!"

"Mum sent us away from a war," Susan said, ignoring the last part. She could care less that they wouldn't be defeating the White Witch alone, she just wanted to get out of her. Behind the bickering people around the table, Edmund slipped out of the Beaver's house so silently that even Amber with her cat senses didn't notice he left. Amber was puzzled, since when did the oracles foretell that prophecy? A lot of things must have happened while the White Witch locked her up the past 20,800 years (13 years in the human world).

Peter and Susan stood up. "Thanks for your hospitality, but we really should be going," Susan said.

Peter turned around as Amber got to her lazy paws. "Come on Ed… Ed?" he said, but his brother was not there. He looked over at Amber who was just as puzzled as he was, where did Edmund go? Peter turned back to the beavers. "I'm going to kill him," he said, or more like promised.

"You may not have to, has Edmund ever been in Narnia before?" Beaver replied. Before either of them could move, Amber shot out of the house knowing that she could catch Edmund before any of them could. She raced through the snow, ignoring the siring pain that she was causing her right shoulder. But she couldn't do anything about it in this form. No, she thought, I'm not letting the White Witch kill him and stop the prophecy.
