Honoring a Hero
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the canon characters; they belong to J. R. R. Tolkien for the book version and Peter Jackson in the movie version, which is what this fic is based on. I have not read the books, so this is based solely on the movie's canon. Based on the drabble prompt: "It's lonely here without you."
Word Count: 206
Every year, Tauriel comes back to the kingdom of the Dwarves. Every year, she comes alone to mourn her fallen comrades in arms who gave their lives in the Battle of Five Armies. There is always one grave she spends the most time at. As she kneels down into the freshly fallen snow, Tauriel reaches her hand into the small pocket on her side.
"It's lonely here without you," the red-haired elf whispers, a small trail of tears beginning to collect in her eyes. "Kili, you were so very brave. You gave your life for the people and cause you believed in," Tauriel sniffs, her green eyes casting downwards to look at the smooth stone in her hand.
The runestone Kili gave her on the beach that day before the battle still holds a special place in the redhead's heart. Tauriel keeps the runestone with her on every quest or mission, and she firmly believes Kili is watching over her to keep her safe.
"Keep it. As a promise," the voice of Kili says in Tauriel's head as she clutches the runestone to her chest.
"Kili, amrâlimê, maralmizu. I always have and always will," Tauriel admits, smiling as a ray of sunlight shines down on her.
Author's Note: And there it is! My first Hobbit story! I have had the first two Lord of the Rings books on my bookshelf since I got them in sixth grade and still haven't read them, nor have I seen the movie trilogy. I have always been interested in seeing the Hobbit movies, though I have never read the books. The entire Hobbit trilogy was on my on demand for a few months, so over those few months, I watched all three of them and absolutely fell in love with them! Bard, Tauriel, Kili, and Bilbo are definitely my top four favorites, with Gandalf rounding out the fifth. Bard is definitely my first favorite, with the other three being somewhat interchangeable depending on the movie. So, yes. I still need to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I still need to read all of the books, but I was inspired by this prompt for a Tauriel and Kili prompt and I knew the only way I'd remember to write it would be to do it during the March drabble challenge I was already going to participate in. So, that's all there is to say about that. I hope you all enjoyed! Reviews are always appreciated. Until next time, dear readers! Have an amazing day, afternoon, or night!
P.S. Taurilel's last words in this fic are supposed to read as "Kili, my one love, I love you. I always have an always will." Though, the translation could very well be wrong, as I had to look on several websites and none of them had an exact way to say 'I love you' in Dwarvish.
