Caroline Forbes stood tall on the stage on the back yard of the City Hall. When Elena changed into a vampire last month, it killed Alaric and with him died their problems with the Council members since Meredith faked a diagnosis for Alaric. She claimed he had a brain tumor and was confusing the line between reality and dreams. The members believed every word she said. Once again the vampire community was safe.
In order to pay for all the damages Alaric did, Carol Lockwood orchestrated a concert and she was ordered to perform a song. She picked one that conveyed all her feelings perfectly.
She had done a lot of thinking about Tyler since he had come from the woods claiming he was over Klaus' compulsion two months ago. Where they had been together, and where they could still go, if both parties were willing. She had thought about the nights she missed him and stayed up late with only her diary keeping her company writing pages about life, love and how unfair it all was. She pondered about their relationship, if they actually had a future but Klaus' words would leave her mind.
'The small town life will never be enough for you'
Could she still be with Tyler? Could she look after the fact that if he lost control once when they made love, she'd be dead? Did she love herself more than she loved Tyler? Finally, she had come up with an answer.

Somewhere in the crowd Tyler was standing feeling tears well in his eyes. Ever since he had left her something had broken between them. He was quick to put the blame on Klaus but he knew that it laid solely on him.

Sneaking a glance to the young hybrid under her lashes Caroline saw his stricken expression. She knew then Tyler not only heard her but also knew what she meant by it. Tyler would always have a part of her heart, but they were never meant to be. For both their sanities, it had to be done.
