Different Kind of Love

I care for you too

He took care of Lacie since he's just thirteen. When he first met her, she was just five days old. Her brother Oswald was two years old. And when his foster mother decided to adopt them, he was overjoyed. Finally, he can take care of someone and have someone who would depend on him.

He fussed over the siblings, looking after them just like an older brother would. He treasured both of them more than anything; in fact he – rather guiltily – loves them more than he would to his foster mother. He took care of them when they sick, when they were bullied and he was the one that they came to when they were happy or sad. They are his.

As Lacie get older, without him even realizing it; he started to care for her in a different way. The fondness he had towards her is more than what an older brother would shower his younger siblings. The fierce protectiveness that he displayed astonished even him. He wants her to be his. Truly his. So he waited and baited his time. When Lacie turned twenty, he proposed to her.

To his surprise, she agreed.

"I'm sure that we would have beautiful children together" she said to him smiling as she took the ring.

Hours after that, they spend by sitting at the sofa; talking about unimportant things. When words faded, she started singing softly as she lean close to him. At that moment, he knows he could spend his whole life with her.

When the priest pronounced them husband and wife, he knew that even if she is Mrs. Levi Baskerville, she would never be truly his. Nevertheless, it a comfort for him to know that while she would never be truly his, it's only to him she would show that beaming warm smile.

Days after she gave birth to their daughters, he asked her a question. "If you were one day to meet a man who loves you more than anything, what would you do?"

With that warm smile that she reserved just for him she answered him, "I would leave you" she pause waiting for his reaction. Receiving none, she pouted before continuing, "Only if he could make me happier that you can. After all, love is superficial. You may say that you love that person and yet you suffered most when you are with them. Rather than that wouldn't it be better to stick to someone that you care and make you the happiest?"

At that, he smiled as he hugged her close. "You are definitely my clinical and cold Lacie."

Four years after that conversation, he leaved a note to her.

I care for you too.

They might be one of the dysfunctional couples ever to not believing in love. Nonetheless, when it came to happiness, he knows that they would never be short of it. After all, he cares for her more than anything and he knows that he's happiest when she's with him.
