There was a time when Roxas thought that his Keyblade was the only thing that could produce a light that could send adrenaline through his veins.
He truly did love the light, though.
The sunset in Twilight town, the flickering of a candle, and the glowing moonlight in The World That Never Was.
But he loved his Keyblade's light most of all.
Sparks of light would invade the darkness as he struck heartless, watching as their shadow faded at his beloved weapon's touch.
...Then he saw Axel fight.
He knew that the man weilded fire, but he never considered that a real light.
Really, he just saw him as a tall guy who happened to love setting things aflame with his chakram.
He didn't really pay attention to him as they fought together at the beginning of their relationship, he merely paid attention to completing the mission.
After all, he didn't know what else he should do.
Then, as the relationship between the two Nobodies progressed, he began to notice small bits of light inside the man.
First, the spark and glow of his chakram as he twirled them, threw them. They were like lasers that seemed to cut the air before it hit the target. And then, the sharp shriek of a flame would engulf the heartless, turning the unsuspecting thing to ashes.
It was an odd light, but light the same.
It grew on him.
Then it was the light that Axel just, well, radiated.
His eyes sparkled and glowed in dark settings, and in the rare moments that Roxas became unsure or scared in combat, those eyes would give him the motivation to keep going, to extinguish any uncertainty at all. They gave him the strength that he didn't know he had at those moments.
His cheerful disposition wasn't literal light, but it sure did send a feeling into Roxas that he often got after a sucessful mission or fight. Those smiles could draw him from the deepest depths of depression, and back into the open again.
Eventually, he didn't notice his Keyblade.
Instead, when they were assigned missions together, he would fight, but his eyes would be on Axel at all times.
He loved all that light.
And eventually, he found that he preferred the clang and shrieking of Axel's chakram rather than the sparkling light of his own weapon.
He loved that light, and marveled at the adrenaline that rushed through him as Axel looked at him.
He smiled. "Great way to get rid of stress, right Rox?"
He smiled a very rare smile back at Axel.
Before, he had felt moody, slightly sad.
Now, he had his light.
The one thing that could make him happy.
