Memories

It was January 9th. My birthday. One of the two happiest days of my life, the second being the day that Zabuza-sama found me. I remember it as clearly as if it were yesterday. I was sitting on the bridge on the outskirts of town. It was snowing, and I was shivering. Then he came. He brought me into his home, and started to teach me the ways of the shinobi. He taught me everything he knew, never reprimanding me for asking too many questions or experimenting with things. My master knew so much. He taught me about human physiology, showing me how to disable or kill an enemy just by hitting a right place on their body with a senbon. He taught me every jutsu he knew. He wanted me to become the ultimate weapon, a tool to help him accomplish his goals. I was happy with that. I was happy that he wanted me, happy that he needed me. I needed him. For the first time in my life, I was wanted. That was all that mattered to me. From there on our relationship grew, until we could almost understand each other by thought alone. Zabuza-sama was my master.

The day I turned 15 was the day that Zabuza took my virginity. It was unexpected. He told me to come to his room. I thought he had forgotten about my birthday, and that I was being sent on an errand, or being taught a new way to kill. I never expected that I would be allowed such a treat as my master's body. It was wonderful. He was so gentle, treating me as though I were a great treasure. That was the final step in cementing our relationship to more than just master and servant. By taking my virginity he had claimed me, branded me his own. But all good things come to an end. Death takes us all eventually.

I watched the last moments of Zabuza's life from the heavens. I saw how he lay beside my body, dying, his mouth forming the last words that would ever pass his lips. "Haku… Gomennasai. I'm sorry I couldn't be there to protect you…" In that instant I felt a deep surge of affection for him, my master. A single tear formed at the corner of my eye and fell, splashing onto the front of my kimono. "Master… Thank you."
