A/N: I had to do the Klaus – Caroline part too. I just couldn't leave it alone! Blame Lorelei Candice Black for this one too ;) Thanks honey!
A/N2: Song is 'Slow dancing in a burning room" by John Mayer
Feeling free from everything that held her down Caroline allowed a smile to stretch on her lips as she whispered to the band that she wanted another song. She closed her eyes as a smooth melody with soul was born by the band around her.
"It's not a silly little moment
It's not the storm before the calm
This is the deep and dying breath
Of this love that we've been working on
Can't seem to hold you like I want to
So I can feel you in my arms
Nobody's gonna come and save you
We pulled too many false alarms"
Matt's eyebrows rose to his hairline. Was Caroline singing about them? Sure he missed her but Elena was always number one for him pathetic as that may be.
"We're going down
And you can see it, too
We're going down
And you know that we're doomed
My dear, we're slow dancing in a burning room
I was the one you always dreamed of
You were the one I tried to draw
How dare you say it's nothing to me?
Baby, you're the only light I ever saw
I'll make the most of all the sadness
You'll be a bitch because you can
You'll try to hit me just to hurt me
So you leave me feeling dirty
Cause you can't understand"
At the bar, a middle aged blond woman choked on her drink. Since when did her daughter make statements like this on stage? first she let Tyler go (something Liz Forbes was very pleased with) and now she was singing to someone new? That girl will be the death of her! Or her sanity. Of course she chose to ignore that in Caroline's age when she did the exact same thing with Bill, her husband, and Mason Lockwood. Maybe it was something about the Lockwood men in general? A sigh escaped her throat and confusion etched across her face.
"We're going down
And you can see it, too
We're going down
And you know that we're doomed
My dear, we're slow dancing in a burning room
Go cry about it, why don't you?
My dear, we're slow dancing in a burning room"
Near Liz stood Klaus, leaning against the open bar. He simply stared. He stopped wishing for Caroline to run to him when she pushed him away with a kick in the nuts when she realized he was wearing Tyler and used the opportunity to kiss her. As much as he wanted the blond girl, he had stopped believing she wanted him and used a song to tell him. She was probably going after someone else. Anyone else.
"Don't you think we oughta know by know?
Don't you think we should have learned somehow?"
Singing the last words, Caroline bit her tongue and her eyes searched the audience. She wanted, no she needed to see if he had understood it. Her smoldering blue eyes landed on his deep blue ones. She gave him a coy smile and a nod. He saw her certainty and she saw his hope.
She was finally ready.
