BE BOUNDLESS at the University of Washington

Stories like Sarah Lynn Helmulfarb's (SBE '21) are just one that you will hear at the University of Washington. One of the world's best-known child stars, Sarah Lynn overcame a difficult childhood of substance and sexual abuse. She now pursues a dual degree in Architectural Design and Construction Management. An admirer of R Buckminster Fuller, she is working on a series of low-cost Geodesic dome houses in the New Orleans area to rehouse families displaced by Hurricane Katrina named in honor of French songstress Edith Piaf, "La Mome" herself. These houses are known for their environmental friendliness in heavily using wood preserved with chromium salts. She intends to name them the Mome Chrome Dome Homes. Her only regret is that as a lifelong Piggsburg Squealers fan, she has had to sit through their loss of the Superbowl to the Seattle Seahawks this year. What she had to say about the Seahawks, unfortunately, cannot be printed on this ad.

Stories like that of Penny Carson ('21) are just one of many that you will hear at the University of Washington. Penny is proudly pursuing the degree in Environmental Studies and Pacific Ocean Civilisations jointly offered by UW and The Great Pacific School of Fish. The degree is the only one of its kind offered in the entire world above sea level. Penny was greatly galvanized by the tragedy of the San Clemente Al Dente Disaster in which 12 tons of spaghetti leaked into the ocean and were almost cooked to stringy perfection leading to the destruction of Pacific Ocean City. The incident made her realize the precariousness and uniqueness of Pacific Ocean Cultures and she has since dedicated her life to studying and preserving it. In particular she admires Seahorse Culture for the way that males are made to shoulder the responsibility of childbirth, and thinks that this is something that should be replicated on land.
