Twilight – From a distance

What if Bella and Edward were being followed, with every move they made, without ever realising? This is Twilight – from a very different perspective. You could also say it acts as Twilight condensed… for now.

I have been watching the Cullens from a distance for a while now. I followed them from one spot to another for many years, and now they are in Forks. All of the Cullens fascinated me, with their strange ways and their idea of being "vegetarian", but it was Edward who drew my interest in particular(Although Alice still intrigues me even now). Such a handsome young boy… such a remarkable talent… The first day of high school for him in Forks was of almost as much interest to me as that of the girl – Bella. He handled his first day admirably. Bella, however… well she must be excused. It was obvious the Cullens would attract her. Little did I guess that she would attract one of the Cullens in return – in more ways than one. Edward.

It utterly astounded me how Edward managed to get through that Biology class, but it soon became apparent to me that he had more self-control than I would ever have given him credit for. He managed to get through many more Biology classes with Bella, and for this I thought he deserved much more than Bella initially granted him. Of course, that was all due to Edward's most infuriating habit of warning her away from him, whilst still drawing her ever closer. His sheer compassion for her after the blood-typing incident – what girl could ever help but fall for him after that? Even after Bella's insistences that she was not a damsel in distress.

And when she discovered he was a vampire, she wasn't half as scared as she ought to have been – as any sane girl would be. I suspect she was secretly thinking of him as her knight in shining armour, especially after that incident in Port Angeles. Edward was always a little overprotective, and with Bella's affinity for danger I don't wonder he went after her, but he came on so strong. Bella didn't seem annoyed that he'd followed her to Port Angeles, as she really should have been.

Later, so obviously frustrated at being unable to use his gift on her, he asked her so many questions I wondered why she didn't slap him in the face – not that it would have much effect, except maybe to give Bella yet another piece of plaster on her arm – and yet she did not. By this point she was as besotted with him as he with her. And his utter self-control around her – so highly commendable. Regardless of how many times he was alone with her – in the setting of the hiking expedition for example – he never lost his composure. Commendable indeed. And so it was that I began to formulate plans – plans which were so rudely interrupted by that annoying – and yet so, so interesting – vampire known as James.

But you must be wondering how I know and have seen so much of the history of Edward and Bella. I am not known as the Shadow for nothing. I am all-seeing, all-hearing, and thus all-knowing. Sometimes this is with the aid of machinery and devices, but more often without. Edward and the rest of the Cullens have never suspected a thing, and I have followed them for many years. I very much intend to keep it that way. Alice has not seen me, and suffice it to say that that is because I am similar to the "werewolves" in this respect. It is Bella who may have suspected that she was being followed, but she tends to dismiss it as paranoia. And so this must be, until finally my plans come to fruition.
