Beautiful monsters.

John Smith wrote the word Beautiful in his best writing, before writing monsters in his normal scribble script.

Clockwork!

He smiled at the picture, such elegance, like time itself, all silver a gold.

They have clocks for faces.

But the he frowned. They had been after something, someone.

And I've left something behind, left someone behind again, and I can never get her back.

He had left her behind again, John realised, but this time, he wasn't saving her, he was saving someone else.

I've set something on fire, and its away up the chimney and I'll never see it again.

"Wish me luck!" he was going to get back to her, his girl, and the woman would be ok.

"no." She said and his face fell.

Beautiful love with broken glass.

And the letter from the woman, how he got there only minutes too late, still he could not save her. On the bottom of the page in the left hand corner he drew the clogs of the extraordinary clockwork and on the next page he drew the beautiful monster.
